Yeah, the best we can hope for is a continued long, slow decline. Hell, John "Brianna Wu" Flynt still has 58 people giving him almost $250/month when he literally hasn't posted anything to his Patreon since early 2015, and hasn't done anything related to video games since he shat out Revolution 60 onto Steam in late 2016. Outside of complete meltdowns like Lowtax's, most Patreons tend to slowly fade out as cards expire or people find someone new to pledge to.
For reference, it took just over two years for Bob's Patreon to decline from its previous peak to his post-Escapist firing spike, from $4630 in August 2018 to $3052 in October 2020. He then got a bunch of pity pledges after he got fired and bounced all the way up to $4638 within a month, then the Lindsay Ellis incident happened and killed his upward momentum with an immediate cancellation of a bunch of pledges. Since then, it's been just under a year and a half, and he's already almost back to where he was before he got fired, only about $170 away, but with fewer patrons than he had then, so each one lost hurts more. For reference, the last time he had this few patrons was December 2016.

At his current bleedout, he's losing about $50 a month. If the trend holds, he'll dip below $3k/month and hit an all-time low by August. We'll just have to see.

I put this below a spoiler tag because I know Bob looks at this thread sometimes, and I fear calling attention to his declining Patreon might make him put out a call for pledges that leads to another spike. While I don't think he'd get nearly the response he did last time (it's not like he can get fired again when he hasn't had a job since then), I'd still rather not chance it.
I feel bad for his mother because at this point she has to know she's never getting rid of him. The dumb bastard couldn't even make it a decade before needing to move back in with her.

I still say Forces could've been better had they committed to the grit. The problem was, in addition to being, ya know, a sonic game with the sonic fandom, they set up this gritty, hard ass story: Sonic captured, being tortured, the world is fucked, Tails is actually losing his mind, but within twenty minutes, it's back to the status quo, wacky Sonic times.

If they had actually went there, I think Forces would have been looked more kindly on. Infinite shows they're self aware enough to understand the edge is hilarious, but gotta do what the boss says, I guess.
Forces waffles too much between a serious story about a war against Eggman and wacky irreverence. It's setup that after Sonic is captured, Eggman tortured him for months. However, the next cut scene has Sonic looking the same as usual and cracking wise, no signs of physical or mental trauma at all. The tonal inconsistency is off putting. Sonic Adventure 2's story is taken seriously and tonally consistent so you can feel invested in it. It's not Shakespeare, but it's a nice story that commits to a clear vision and has a consistent tone. It shows that if done well, Sonic games can have stories that aren't just sarcastic joke fests where nothing is treated with any sort of earnestness. The story of Forces lacking commitment with no clear, defined direction honestly feels emblematic with Sega's handling of the series as a whole in how it lacks clear direction and commitment.
TL;DR Bob is a fat man child and is the only person alive who's still butt hurt at Sega for the "Genesis does what Nintendon't" commercial since he views Mario as sacred and beyond reproach.

Sonic games typically hurt because they were rushed out. If Sega took the time the games needed to perfect the gameplay, they’d be golden. Still, as it is, Sonic manages to remain a popular franchise almost entirely on the character itself alone.

Did he record his review on a webcam?, this fucker keeps getting worse and worse at his 21st century job.
THEY'RE STILL WORKING ON THE CAMERA SET UP!!!
The entire "darker-and-edgier" Sonic debate has me reminded of all the attempts of a grittier story in the games and two of which were crowned to be complete shit. Rise of Lyric and Forces. It seems people haven't learned that a gritty Sonic is a death sentence to any title.

Also, while people may see a resurgence of "game-to-movie" adaptations, the mess of Uncharted and the Halo show has shown that there are still retards who do not understand the story. That said, I do want to see it happen regardless just to spite Bob.
Sonic should always be a series of games about a bunch of cartoony friends trying to save the universe from the vile eggman, and his army of robots and evil bad critters. It should always be upbeat, fast, lightly humorous, and kid-friendly. These are the traits that made it successful in the first place. It's one of those franchises like Mario, where the story is really only as deep as the setup, and then takes a back seat to the fun of the mechanics. This is the strength of the platforming genre in general.
The more sonic becomes about the story, the character's internal problems, or romance the cringier and weirder it gets. You're really not supposed to think much about the game, just run with it.

I remember seeing the sonic comics as a kid, and they were ridiculously goofy. Every time sonic opens his mouth to say something more than a quip, it comes off incredibly cringe. Just let it be what it wants to be, a 2d platformer based on going fast.

Personally, I want sonic games to be a bit more "zoomed out" camera-wise so that i can see where I'm going more readily. Something like N++

Honestly, zooming out would fuck up how a good sonic game works. I know it's literally impossible to be the most autistic person about Sonic. But, like I could get really into a good Sonic game works, and how there's like 3 of them. 5 of them if I count Mania and CD. But I think the CD formula is a bit shaky. But it's got more of a grasp on it than what DIMPs would figure out.

In short, you gotta naturally slow players down and naturally speed them up. Fucking putting big hazard signs before bottomless pits, is the wrong way of doing this. Also, bottomless pits is the wrong way of doing Sonic. But, like there's a bit of exploration to Sonic that I think zooming out the camera fucks up. As an example. There's a bit in the very last level of Sonic 1. Where if you're taking the short way there's a bit of a gap. As you approach it it looks like stretches out past your jump distance and so it seems natural to wanna go down it. But it takes you off the shortcut. Instead, if you keep scrolling just a bit more, you see you do gotta jump to stay on the short path. So, if you know or if you're not rushing, then you can finish the level much quicker than someone who isn't paying attention and rushing.
Not asking you to powerlevel, but I'm curious about your age. I notice Bob fans (who aren't speds or troons) tend to skew a good bit younger and outgrow him. As someone who's got a few years on Bob, I always thought he was completely full of shit, even on the rare occasions I encountered him before Gamergate.
So off Sonic autism. I actually think there's some truth here. Like what I was originally watching Moviebob for him talking about Comic arcs. Which as a kid who had only interacted with comics in a more sparse way, I enjoyed hearing the world around the comics and the comics themselves. But like everyone else, it became pretty clear that he was full of bullshit, and was getting things wrong.

I forget where it was. But someone here on the farms was talking about how they had a friend who had all the best stories. Until one day they realized he was stealing them. That's Moviebob. And I possibly stole that analogy from that guy if that was in this thread....

I don't understand how you can make 3 grand a month and still live with your mother. Even with Patreon's cut and taxes taken out.
Rent's already been going up across the country, but it doesn't help that Bob lives in the Boston area. Most of what I'm finding in a cursory search of Revere starts at $1500/month, and that's just the low end, with many $2k/month or higher. And rent's only the start of it, when you've also got food, gas, utilities, insurance, and other miscellaneous expenses, not to mention unexpected costs that pop up from time to time.

In that regard, it makes sense for Bob to be living with his mom, especially if whatever family deal he had ended (wouldn't be surprised if the aunt sold the place out from under him, what with the real estate market being how it is). However, he could also just as easily be living literally anywhere else in the country, where rent is cheaper and he could get more living space for his money. He could have room for an actual studio with a proper greenscreen setup, even.

But that would mean living among the inferior mayo ghouls, instead of the enlightened upper class of Bahstahn, so Bob would never go for that. Thus, since he can't afford to live on his own in his precious city, he has to move back in with Mama Chipman.

$36k a year really does not go very far in any Northeastern city, particularly during the pall of Bidenomics. And I'll say it again: I think some significant chunk of Bob's budget goes to booze and nothing short of an intervention or going totally broke is going to change that.

Is there any actual evidence that he lives with his mom? I've heard it said before but I've yet to find any hard evidence to suggest it.

Also I'd be willing to bet his Patreon numbers are inflated somehow. I seem to recall it came out that there was a rats' nest of lefty influencers that pass their money between Patreons to boost their numbers. I distinctly recall when his Patreon went live he hit 3k basically overnight, and it was right after the first Escapist firing so he wasn't exactly a hot ticket item. It seems a bit sussy baka that his Patreon never seems to dip below that specific mark.

While I could see Bob doing the whole money shuffle, I'm not surprised that his Patreon saw a boost after his firing, I'm sure some fans of Moviebob who saw him get fired were spurred by the "injustice" of it all and went from just watching to financially supporting.

As for the rent, I saw similar numbers when I checked out Boston rent a few weeks ago, when I was trying to figure out where the hell Bob spends his money.

Seeing as Bob's job is literally all online, the fact that he hasn't moved to bumfuck nowhere for cheap rent or a state with no income tax is bizarre. I guess family and not wanting to be around the Mayochuds?

Maybe its just because no one in my family bar my parents ever really seems to set down roots, but not living in the same state as your family hasn't been that much of an issue since our nation stopped using the horse and carriage as its primary mode of transit.

Workers! Your sole value in life is to be the political pawns of the Cultural Elite. So obey your Liberal Overqueers or be replaced by robots.

To answer Lass_Library: the "marginalized workers" simply refuse solidity with the majority of the working class -- this is exactly why they were "marginalized" in the first place -- so it is only natural that they screams should be ignored, if not actively mocked.

Ingraham Angle of Fox News has concluded that woke teachers have become the new school bullies, and Fox News is launching a new portals where parents can share stories about teachers grooming their kids and/or teaching them to hate their skin. Bobby wants to spam their mailbox.

If societies can stand to cohere ("cohese" is not a word, Mr. Cultural Elite) less, why should we demand workers to march in lockstep with liberal "progressives"?

Bobby still denies that teachers are groomers.
ROGD.png
This condition already has a name: Rapid-Onset Gender Dysphoria (ROGD), coined by clinician and researcher Lisa Littman. (The Week article). We have recently discussed the false equivalence between transsexualism and left-handedness in one of our tranny threads, but I can't find it.

chromosomes.png
I can't quite parse this tweet but this is not how chromosomes work. The Y can only afford to lose genes if the male-determining gene(s) in it becomes relocated to an autosome (non-sex chromosome), thereby turning the autosome into a de facto sex chromosome.

Part of it is that for all his talk about being well-traveled, he's actually a coward who doesn't want to leave the safe and familiar, plus his family is there and they're the only social group he has, except when Chris invites him to tag along to his gatherings.

The other part is he hates "going backwards", even if it meant he would have more money. When he first got fired from the Escapist, he was making over $4k a month on Patreon, and six figures a video on his YT channel before the adpocalypse. But in his mind, being an independent reviewer on YouTube is not being a professional, since they get paid by other companies to do reviews. So, he first went to Screw Attack and got a lucrative 32 video contract that he made sure they would never want to renew, and then eventually became a critic for Geek, which fell apart as a company right around the time Escapist was coming back. If he'd just kept to his old Escapist schedule of two five minute videos a week, and moved to a state with cheaper housing and lower taxes, he would have been able to afford the lifestyle he assumes he's owed. Instead, he refuses to leave a coastal state, because doing so would be admitting failure. And as we all know, Bob cannot take an L.

So, Bob no proposee to invade France? Lets see...Poland...Russia and no France. I see he follows Uncle Adolfs book really well. Now, I see why Western and libtards are freakin over Le Pen, since she said she'll leave NATO, will remove sanctions against Russia. So, naturally Britain and US are flipping their shit, now personally I dont like her myself. Since shes a typical conservative twat and Id would have preffered a better choice, but really the reactions alone is laugh worthy.

Mid thirties. So a few years younger than Bob.

Sorry if I'm repeating myself, but during the early days of the "angry nerd" YouTube reviewers, it was assumed that most were exaggerating for the camera James Rofle and Doug Walker were. It was only years later that we learned Jim Sterling, Spoony, Linkara, and others were just raging autists.

Bob is full of shit, but that doesn't mean I have to disagree with everything he says. A stopped clock is right twice a day and all that. His video about radical feminists attacking games was spot on, and despite some of his autism, his general idea of how to fix Sonic I agreed with then, and was partially proven right over time with Generations and Mania being some of the more well received Sonic games of the last decade.

What's funny to me about both of those is he's abandoned those few positions he was right on for short term gains. He started to be pro-feminist when Other M was widely criticised by gamers, and he hates Sonic now because his film is better than Mario's. Bob is so full of rage and autism he can't even keep a win he got years ago because he's still fighting the 90s console war.

I've had that experience, but I don't think I mentioned it on the farms.

I’m 32. Honestly loved Bob’s early stuff when I discovered him on the Escapist. There wasn’t a lot of that kind of content back then y’know?

Then a couple of years later I thought “This man is a vile cunt” and he got removed from the Escapist twitter feed before being sacked.
That's the thing with Bob, much like Lowtax he was a the right time and the right place for a lot of internet fads that he utterly failed to capitalize on. Fast talking and angry reviewing was a fad that lasted between '06 to '11. At least that's what I remember. AVGN had a legion of copycats but who the hell can remember them? Even if the audience are not all that bright, their lizard brain can still spot bullshit. The idea was that if you sounded angry enough you could get away with any contrarian oppinion you could. Do you 'member when Filmbrain said that Transformers 2 was better than Inglorious Bastards?
Bob was copying Yahtzee in the Movies depart and giving his thumbs up/down schtick. Fast talking is the same fad but the people who make it look easy never show the BTS. That's why there's only Yahtzee left that still does this type of content (and I also dropped Yahtzee in '11 when I came to the conclussion that vidya is a hobby and I don't give a shit if it's art or not, so fundamentally I don't care about the content Ben and the rest of the vidya commenter crowd was preaching)

My experience with Bob was fairly similar to yours:

>Listened to his reviews
>Went to see the movies he recommended
>They were shit
>"This man's taste is far removed from mine, oh well, no biggie, at least he has some insights on other areas"
>Listen to his opinion pieces for some months
>"This man is kind of an idiot, I don't need the brain rot"
>2011 Mass Effect 3, "fuck you entitled gamers"
>"This manchild is an imbelice that lucked into a career, I hope he gets what's comming to him".

Bob was approachable, like the kind of nerd friend that gets super into stuff but you could listen to him and stop him before he gets into a Musollini rant. The thing is that Bob started to believe his own hype and there was no one around to slap some sense into him. We're all humans, we all have hubris but Bob self-isolated so much that it cost him the only career he could ever have. Tragic, really.

The angry reviewer fad has faded away but Bob still makes videos like it 06-11. I understand that not every video maker needs to radically alter the presentation of their videos from when they started, but Bob has been making videos the exact same way he has been since Day 1. What ever money he made from it in the beginning most certainly did not get reinvested into his equipment so he could make videos. He's always stuck to speaking so quickly, whatever he is saying is often incoherent. It's ironic how he deems the people he hates as inferior backwards savages quickly being left behind, when in reality, he's the one sticking with an obsolete method of video production and has been left in the dust of much more talented content creators who started much later than him, but are light years ahead of him on all fronts. The comparison to Lowtax is fitting, as would be comparisons to WingsOfRedemption and Lindsay Ellis. All of them were lucky enough to get in on the ground floor of Internet content creation, and none of them have the talent, charisma, or wit to do anything other than make the same stuff they always have and coast of the momentum of being a pioneer for their genre of video.

I just love how much he is seething in rage. People see through his bullshit, and it annoys him to no end that he lives in a timeline where Sonic might be getting a trilogy while his beloved Wa Hoo man is on the verge of being mocked. Not to mention how much momentum Sonic has gathered since the first movie with the upcoming show, and video game. That quote doesn't say the quiet part, but it is clear he wants to gouge his eyes for the fact Fans got what they wanted and his hated rival is thriving.

Is it petty of me to wish for the Mario movie to suck just to spite Blob's seething ass?

I don't have many if any expectations from the Mario movie, not when the characterizations has been placed on a secondary plane in order for the movie to be a promotion vehicle for its "star studded" voice cast. ( Chris Pratt as Mario, Jack Black as Bowser, FFS )

I want the Mario movie to be so bad and ends up being such a flop that Nintendo swears off any Hollywood adaptation for another 30 years ( the Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo Super Mario Bros movie came out in 1993 so its 30th Anniversary is next year). I want for Bob to seethe and cope for decades to come at the fact that his beloved plumber is never going to get a decent movie while Sega's characters end up getting a successful cinematic universe.

IMHO the salt that would flow from Bob's ever drooping jowls would make not having a good Mario movie worth it.
