I know Bob has to pretend he was an insider who always knew everything but it seems more probable that Willis was a diminishing star taking increasingly poor roles like almost literally all of them do who also had medical issues that increased until he could no longer work than he suddenly became infirm and was exploited by thousands upon thousands of people who knew but all kept quiet for over a decade. 2016 was a perfect storm of Bob assuming he was going to win as mandated by the evolutionary process of time. I think there would be too much of a heads up that the Democrats are going to lose. I would expect Bob to prioritize being right about what happens over sealing himself further into a bubble. (I know this contradicts his normal behavior including involving the nerd film industry but I figure it would be too hard to ignore.) I must imagine there will be lots of "how Democrats could turn this around and win: say they're going to exterminate the Mayo Ghouls and starve any state that votes wrong" advice followed by "the Democrats should have just seized power instead of participating in elections" cope though.

Anyway, I found this essay about Walt Disney and the repeal of the Reedy Creek Special District.

Walt Disney's original plans for EPCOT was MovieBob's wet dream, down to the corporation deciding every aspect of the resident's lives. If he stans hard for the version of EPCOT that he saw, imagine how much he would have loved the carless, powerplant-less Magical Space City? I wonder what Bob thinks about Walt Disney, the man himself? Walt seems to have been every Tumblr artist's wet dream - a magical daddy who would take care of them and let them live in a magical kingdom producing art. And yet many lefties hate Walt because he was anti-Communist and pro-family.

That essay is a good overview of Walt's plans for EPCOT and well worth the read. But if you want the full story and have about six and a half hours to kill, Defunctland's third season is worth a watch. Kevin's done an incredible job detailing the history of Walt's life and how it tied into his work on his theme parks, the New York World's Fair, and his plans for EPCOT itself (that episode alone is almost 50 minutes long).

(And on a side note, if you're more curious about Disney's operations post-Walt, the first two seasons, especially season 2, are where you want to go. I can honestly say that I did not expect to be sympathetic towards Eisner by the end.)

Anyway, I think that the removal of the Reedy Creek Improvement District was long overdue. It's kind of insane that Disney managed to wrangle it in the first place, though I guess the state government didn't have an issue with it because it really was just a bunch of unused swampland. Disney World probably wouldn't be anywhere near what it is today without it, but let's face it, the district was set up to build a city, not a giant theme park. Once it was clear that the City of Tomorrow wasn't going to come to fruition, the Florida government should have repealed the law; if nothing else, they could easily argue that they had been bamboozled because Walt deliberately sold them on the idea through presenting his vision for EPCOT. No corporation can justify having unilateral control over that much land just to build a theme park; hell, no corporation should have that much power over that much land for any reason.

Now, I won't deny that Walt Disney was a man of vision, but visionaries can have some stupid ideas. Planned cities have generally always failed because the planners never quite get human behavior right, and when you drill down into the details of how Progress City would have been set up and run, you realize that it might have been the biggest failure of all. Having every detail of your life micromanaged, getting kicked out if you don't have a job (what happens if your employer downsizes or outsources?), having zero say in any form of city government, seemingly no contingency plans for breakdowns of things like the PeopleMovers...Walt may have been a visionary, but I think he was ironically blind to human nature.

Not being a Floridian, I think Disney is well within its rights to terminate any and all discounts for Florida residents. As a Californian who lives a couple hours outside Disney Anaheim, both Disneyland and California Adventure gave SoCal resident discounts off-and-on during the early 2000s, but only for those within a zpecific ZIP code range. I don't recall the Disney duology offering anything like that in recent memory.

I agree to an extent and while I overall like Kevin, he's also a drama queen.
