Not defending him on this, but we do need to consider that the Bob that Chris knows isn't the Bob we know. Asshole or not, he's his older brother and one he seemingly idolizes over his career, it's not unexpected for him to be defensive with people mocking his brother with his perspective and immaturity. In my experience, most assholes tend to present themselves as nice people to the people they care about, so odds are Chris only knows Bob's "public face" while we know Bob with his gloves off!
Your idea is wrong but not because of anything you said, but rather due to the fact that Bob never backs down from his narcissistic tard raging. If this guy used his brain, this thread would be much, much shorter than it currently is. Instead we have this lovely person, a completely unhinged asshole with equally lovely followers like other psycho extremists and a rapist!
MovieBlob as a victim of harassment as much as Al Capone was a victim of unfair policing. I grant that it's impossible to really know someone purely through social media, both because you can't tell how much of someone's online presence is a performance and because of the natural filtering effect of online interaction ... but at the same time, Chris has exactly the same access to Bob's twitter as the rest of us. He can see how unhinged, petty, nasty, vicious, and generally assholish Bob's online behavior is. I don't expect him to call him out in public over it (they are family, after all), but Bob's complete inability to moderate himself over the years suggests Chris has never done so in private, either.
Or if he did, it didn't take. Try harder, Chris!

"The line" is, "Behold the power of darkness!" Now, since it's been for fucking ever since I last saw the MLP special "Rescue from Midnight Castle" (and I missed it the first few times it was broadcast due to bad luck), but I knew exactly where in the half hour cartoon special (NOT a "movie" and certainly not the 1986 My Little Pony: The Movie) I was going to find it when I looked at it on Youtube.
You see, back in the day, Network Television would often run "specials". Bugs Bunny, Garfield (before Garfield and Friends was a Thing - though they rolled some of those specials into the Garfield And Friends network broadcast and syndication packages), My Little Pony (they had two, this one and Escape from Katrina - those got rolled into My Little Pony and Friends as regular episodes, but MLP the Movie didn't), The Care Bears (a Bob favorite for some reason), Charlie Brown (also before The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show was a thing, though they continued with showing holiday themed specials as specials).
BTW the villain Tirek in My Little Pony: Rescue at Midnight Castle is voiced by Victor Caroli, the narrator on The Transformers cartoon. The writer was George Arthur Bloom, who wrote the pilot 3 part Transformers: More than Meets the Eye episodes -which in itself kind of was a "special" until the regular episodes came out. The music was composed and conducted by Johnny Douglas, who composed music for a lot of Sunbow/Marvel shows, including Transformers, GI Joe (which also started life as intermittent "specials" like MLP did, before getting full seasons, and then the specials were rolled into the main series on syndication), and Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. It doesn't say who the voice director was but it was probably Wally Burr. EDIT: Wait, scratch that, in the My Little Pony and Friends credits, voice directors are listed as Alan Dinehart (voice directed on Spiderman And His Amazing Friends) and Ginny McSwain.

I don't think Bob confusing My Little Pony: Rescue from Midnight Castle (1984) with My Little Pony: The Movie is particularly excusable, since of course, he's a Movie Critic. He should KNOW the difference between the first MLP half-hour special, and an 87 minute long feature film. Doubly inexcusable because while Rescue at Midnight Castle clearly had the Year 2 Ponies (with a handful of Year 1's like Cotton Candy) such as Bow Tie, Twilight, and Firefly, MLP The Movie had gone way past that (new toys syndrome) into the Year 3 and 4 toys. Triply inexcusable because the character designs on MLP TM were better and cleaner than in MLP RMC.
Yeah the first MLP special was bonkers, but it was supposed to be. This wasn't some (early) Care Bears shit like "The Land Without Feelings" (which preceded MLP RMC by a full year); it was pedal-to-the-metal and I felt like I could take MLP more seriously than the fucking Care Bears. (maybe that's just my sperg opinion but whatever.) I'm sure Bob would like to paraphrase Milli Vanilli and blame it on cocaine, yeah yeah. And no, Bob. The nightmare monsters do NOT "explode". They de-polymorph. This is a magical fantasy tale, not fucking Michael Bayformers. Magical poof transformation effects =/= "explosions". Hell, bob doesn't just analyze the curtains, he eats them along with the crayons.
But seriously. If you compare the first Care Bears special (The Land Without Feelings) to the first MLP special (Rescue from Midnight Castle), it's like night and day. The Care Bears special was 1 million percent goofier than anything that came out of Sunbow/Marvel productions. MLP treated Tirek as a serious villain and threat. Professor Coldheart was goofy as hell and not nearly as serious an antagonist. Also Care Bears was made from a shitty Canadian production company and had terrible voice direction/acting.

Going by what Bob puts on Social Media he seems close to his immediate family especially his brother and his family. He must be close to mom to be living with her. He never mentions his sister so my guess is she like the extended family she sees him at family gatherings. Speaking of those gatherings if it's just his immediate family he's probably pleasant to he around and if a large family gathering it's like his sister's wedding he's alone with food.
He has no friends or outside contacts or they'd be on his social media so that's it when it comes to human contact.
He was probably a miserable fuck for his family to be around before Social Media. He's a pussy and would never confront people in person. So he was probably 24/7 rage filled until Social Media gave him an outlet to vent on.
Seriously without Social Media if Blobby became completely unemployed tomorrow and had no outlet to vent. he'd either slump into a massive depression of fast food and booze or completely snap and do a mass shooting.
