Is it possible that he only approves of anime adaptations in hope that means "all Asian casts" even if the story has nothing to do with Japan or Asia in general? I know jack about Battle Angel but I'm not talking about it in particular. It's like how some people got their panties in a twist about Dragon Ball Evolution not being full of Japanese people despite the characters being from all over their world and the story being inspired by China & America.

Pretty much, the high school stuff was bizarre. I was talking about the inspirations for the franchise are stuff like Journey to the West (Everyone knows this part), Star Wars (Freeza arc was inspired by it), Superman (Saiyans), etc. so "Why isn't everyone Japanese?" is an odd complaint.

I love how he actually thinks we hate these comics because they have women and non-whites when a few of my favorite comic book characters include: Wonder Woman, Storm, Static Shock, Rogue, and Jon Stewart's green lantern. But heres the thing, the fact that they were women, or black, wasn't the core feature of their character, it was that they were badass, they were human. Hell, I remember one episode of Static Shock that dealt with racism and it showed that the racist dude was willing to change when he got exposed to the fact that black people aren't all bad. The problem with the new Marvel comics is that they aren't about people who happen to be black, or happen to be gay, that is their personality, it is what Marvel defines them as. The problem is, they suck, because as I have pointed out, we have already seen black people who are people, women who are people, gay people who are people. So its not progression we are afraid of, its regression.

The ironic part is Bob's kinda right in that some of them might survive even if by sheer volume but the catch is that most of them would've been retooled rather than continue on the course their creator's made. The America Chavez in "Marvel Rising" for example is likely going to have nothing in common with Gabby Rivera's America who was held back by her writer if anything and not the readers who had no obligation to read it. I doubt she would survive but any future versions of her would be based around any other personality created for the character.

The most likely to survive is going to be characters like Miles Morales. Yeah, most people see him as a what if or sidekick instead of the replacement he was made out to be but he'll have his place. Might even survive in the mainstream alongside Peter since Bendis wised up to the fact he'll need his own identity...even if the leaked "Spy-D" name actually is the final one they settle on.

That's literally what a lot of employees tell people which makes it funny. Bob thinks the customers are the problem and not employees telling people not to buy their product if they disagree with them on anything....and a lot of the time, they listen.

Part of the problem to me is that most comics have lost the pulpy fun aspect they used to have. A guy like Dave Stevens (The Rocketeer) would be chased out of comics today, and that man had legitimate talent and not Tumblr-level talent. You know what I liked when I was a teenager, at prime comic book reading age? Violence and titties. I didn't like being lectured about how much I suck for the circumstances of my birth, which seems to be a prime focus of mainstream comics now (the ones getting cancelled en masse).

I sure miss Dave Stevens.

I'd like to see someone answer the call to adventure. Not someone complain that their life is too good because their teacher isn't racist or sexist.

Bob's Harley Quinn comparison is not an apt one because Harley was originally intended an anonymous henchwoman to the Joker and audiences reacted positively to the character, which led to her gaining prominence in the show (and her jump to the comics.) Marvel Rising is more of a crass attempt to popularize a bunch of characters that only a tiny minority of people give a flying fuck about. Of the characters featured, maybe Squirrel Girl is the one with any sustained popularity, and frankly, I always thought of her as a one-dimensional gag character. No matter how much Marvel tries to turn Ms. Marvel into a breakout character, I'm not buying it. Same with America. All off this reeks of marketing and no support from the grassroots. Then again Bob hates the grassroots, so it is little wonder that that he considers it a cultural touchstone on par with the DCAU.

HAHA. No, this will probably get a less-than-enthusiastic response from the fanbase and indifference from the greater public. Here is the thing: people like Iron Man, people like Captain America, and so on. Very few people know who these characters are and fewer even CARE. I have a strong inkling that this project will go on the garbage heap with Darkhawk and Sleepwalker because of shallow characterization and nonexistent story.

At least Young Avengers and New Warriors have genuine fans.

Aren't the Chinese an extremely superstitious group of people? They rarely get ghost movies because of deeply-ingrained superstitions and beliefs about spirits.

If anything, the reason the Chinese are ahead on cloning and genetic manipulation is because they simply don't care about the moral implications.
