He's actually kind of correct (broken clocks and all that) in that Disney/Marvel generally avoids things that would be controversial enough to cross lines in big money international markets like China or the Middle East. The pop culture spergs that endlessly fellate Marvel never want to admit that these movies are made for one reason: speak to the absolute lowest common denominator and make the most money and sell the most merch they possibly can.
Which is complicated if you have to edit characters and story arcs out of films in every country it screens in.
It's not without precedent. The Ghostbusters remake was apparently not screened in China because, as Mike Stoklasa eloquently put it "The Chinese think it's witchcraft."
Russia and India won’t allow gay shit in their movies at all and China is very conservative and only allows things that fit the cultural and moral values of the Communist Party.
Those are huge markets and Disney isn’t going to give up those precious billions, because the gays are still going to go see the movies regardless and those who boycott are a drop in the bucket.
