The most interesting thing about this newest Plinkett review in regards to Bob is the careful and precise way Plinkett compares the structure of the film to the structure of a slapstick comedy, and why what works for National Lampoon's Vacation doesn't work for a Star Wars movie. That is a level of analysis Bob has never demonstrated, and which I doubt he's capable of even on his best day.

This is also a great example of why shit-tier internet film critics like Bob or Doug Walker despise RLM. They're incapable of reaching this quality level of reviewing and know they look bad in comparison. They of course get pissed off over it because they no longer have the influence they once had with better competition taking their fans away.

RLM is on a wholly different plane than Bob or Doug or nearly any internet critic you can name (PBS hiring Lindsay Ellis does not give her any particular expertise). I can't explain it. Mike Stoklasa and Jay Baumann being film school alumni is part of it, but not all. There's just a level of professionalism there few others on YouTube even come close to.

Plus, they don't ever rarely discuss politics in their reviews unlike Bob.

They've actually put in the work to make their own movies. Several times. A passion and experience like that will give you insight others will lack.

So I just watched his video on the X-Men in the MCU, and what really struck me was how unfocused it all felt. Like, he barely talks about the X-Men for much of the middle half, and instead goes on a tangent about continuity and how being overly-obsessive about it makes for poor storytelling. One commenter summed up my feelings the best:

This is such a retcon, the Bob Chipman character used to care about all the wierd Intricacies of the comicbook universes and now he doesn't care at all? So now he's comicbook nerd who doesn't care about comic books? It just doesn't make sense anymore.

Is there an irony those two morons are named Bob and Doug?

He's saying that because his senpais also say it. They hate continuity because they find it "confusing" and see it as a form of gatekeeping. You can't say Bob doesn't know what he's talking about if we just remove facts from the equation.

The problem is removing continuity is absolutely impossible without removing seqentiual storytelling. They offer nothing to replace it.

In other words, continuity won't allow Bob and his ilk to change things they don't like (replacing white male characters with minorities) about stories. Therefore, it's terrible.

Hmm....wanting to control and erase the past so that they can control the future and retroactively erase any possible dissent for their ever shifting idiocy....where have I heard this before?

I swear this recent timeline of ours grows ever more like a Mel Brooks parody of Nineteen Eighty Four wherein Big Brother and the Inner Party are all fucking retaards

Those ilk has been doing that to other medium as well just for personal greed and profit.

Look of these forms of entertainment that have flopped as a result of the creators appealing to Bob and his ilk.

I haven't seen the RLM review yet.

I think they're in an interesting position because they previously presented a spectrum as a binary.

On the left side, there's "Seen it" which is conservative and soulless corporate. Right of that is "I didn't see that coming!" which is what you get when skilled writers and directors work within a known quantity and do something interesting with it.

But there's a third value, "what the fuck was that?" where Captain America yells "Hail Hydra" and The Last Jedi.

You want the second.

Basically, he's cucked out to the normies who complain about this stuff being too "geeky" or something.

Reminds me of how the gaming press went after Far Cry 5 for aiming to avoid divisive politics, yet it became the fastest selling game in the series and Ubisoft's second largest release.

I don't think Bob knows how similes work.
If female mid-level filmmakers are "factory farming literal" misogynists then that means they're not just milking them for cash, but creating more. Pretty sure that wasn't the point Blob intended to make but I guess there's truth to it nonetheless...
