Question. What the fuck do Aquaman and Bumblebee have to do with his bullshit?

I have no idea what's going on with the Transformers movie, but the Aquaman stuff would seem to be more identity politics garbage. "Oh look, the dumbass comic fans didn't care that Aquaman is brown instead of blond haired and blue eyed!" Which seems sorta insulting not only to comics fans (that's to be expected), but to Jason Momoa, who's not getting credit for being incredibly charismatic.

Also not mentioned: the utter fucking trainwreck and box office stinker that was A Wrinkle in Time, whose failure was directly attributable to forced identity politics.

I think BumbleBee has to do with the token human being a woman which isn't a first for Transformers and no one cares. As for Aquaman, Bob's trying to group it in as Arthur Curry isn't a blonde guy in the movie.....despite still being a half-Atlantean as he traditionally is. He thinks both prove some point about "representation" I don't think he's fully thought through.

The only weird thing with Aquaman, and I have no idea if the Justice League movie touched on it, is it removes the later established thing about blonde hair making you an outcast as it's a bad omen in Atlantean culture. I suppose it can be replaced with the usual "Why does the half-breed get to be king?" conflicts but eh, that's a bit more generic.

You're only really going to piss off the comic spergs if you lean on the inaccurate Super Friends memes about "hahaha, he's useless and talks to fish" instead of the cool warrior-king born in America who also has a hot redhead as his wife. He's not a meathead but Aquaman is totally chad material.

I don’t think Aquaman looks like it’s shoving identity politics down our throats. That’s not what Jason Momoa is promoting at least.

The fact that Disney thought it’d be a good idea to replace all the Christan themes with identity politics is laughable.

Momoa and the movie don't seem to be pushing identity politics, but that won't stop certain spergs from trying to shoehorn the identity politics into it with a proverbial crowbar.

They would do far more harm to an otherwise decent movie just to score a "win."

As someone who has seen Justice League, it was not touched on. I don't think it will be touched on in Aquaman considering Orm (Arthur's half-brother) is blonde in this adaptation.

It's becoming more and more apparent that Pitts isn't just some left-wing person who ignores Bob's antics because he's on the same political side as he is.

He does it because he is as unstable as Bob is.

That was pretty obvious when he insisted on buying the dead, decaying and rotting corpse of the Escapist for what was clearly no sound business reason, then doubled down by rehiring Bob. In the only scenario where Pitt's is not an insane unstable lunatic, he's simply an evil con man running a "Springtime for Hitler" level scam on a bank or venture capitalist.

So here’s Bob’s top ten of 2018.
https://www.geek.com/movies/moviebobs-top-10-movies-of-2018-1765957/

Searching, not Black Panther.

A TL : DR of the list.

10. Assassination Nation
REEEE Gamergate! REEEE Trump!

9. Annihilation
"gonzo sci-fi thriller" with an all female cast.
I keep seeing people misuse the term "gonzo" that I have no idea what it means any more.

8. First Reformed
A film about a priest that loses his faith. This being Bob I assume that this is here for fedora tipping reasons.

7. Mandy
I've never heard of this film (or any on the list so far). Bob describes it with random words that make no sense.
you do get terrifying body-mod biker gangs, crossbow killings, drug-trips, villain monologues, battle-axe blacksmithing, tiger-uncaging and chainsaw-fencing. And nearly all of it is rendered in either through the neon haze of a blacklight poster or the high-contrast primary hues of an airbrushed van.
What does any of that mean?

6. BlackKklansman

5. First Man
Bob says he's a sucker for anything NASA.

4. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
He then goes on to talk about Black Panther "elevating the entire genre" and how great Spiderman 2 was.

3. Won't You Be My Neighbor
audiences turned up in big numbers simply to be reminded that a decent person had existed.
I'm not making that up. Bob says that.

2. Black Panther

1. Searching
Searching transcended what could’ve just been a well-executed storytelling gimmick to become one of Hollywood’s rarest beasts: A cyber-thriller that wants to reflect on how technology actually fits into the world — and how it can be a force for good instead of just paranoia (but still deliver plenty of paranoia all the same). Solving a crime with Google-fu may be a fantasy, but the illustration of how our digitally-curated lives reveal who we are (and aren’t) was all too real.
Where to even start? Superior future? Bob spends too much time on social media? Bob doesn't know that people have solved crimes using the internet like catching the Antifa bike lock guy? Or should I not say anything and let it speak for itself?

Looks like a bunch of gibberish to me. How is he this bad at reviewing movies despite the fact that it's his job?

So by that logic, we shouldn’t care about your shitty reviews.

Between his shitty Paradise Lost/Care Bears pitch and this, I’ll gladly watch the Sonic movie over Bob’s any day of the week.

Going off topic a little, I can’t imagine how Chris Chan is feeling at the moment.

Isn't name dropping other films of the same genre, BUT different medium devalue the entire fucking point of your reasons why you liked it? Jesus, even if its a different film. You can't still pull out those cirurgic infused googles off the Raimi films, or your woke riding to BP.

I'm going to :optimistic: (we know Bob reads this thread sometimes) try to explain to him why his explanation supports the conspiracy instead of debunking it.

Bob, the reason critics are prone to being paid off is exactly BECAUSE they don't make much money, BECAUSE no one pays attention to them. Someone who is rich has no incentive to take a bribe, but someone living hand to mouth has every incentive to take a bribe if it keeps the debt collectors away for a few more months.

Likewise, the reason a non-woke Star Wars knock off hasn't appeared is because gatekeepers in production, criticism, and distribution conspired to keep those who would make such a film out of the industry or buried so the public doesn't know about them. Remember how Hardcore Henry was smeared on release and was shown at cinemas for all of 5 minutes? Remember how Ghostbusters 3 was stonewalled for years until old cast started to die off and be replaced with wamyns?

As for the critics being "out of touch". Bob, you talked about this in your review of The Kings Speech so you know what you're saying is bullshit. Critics are out of touch because they'd rather promote shitty movies with the right "message" or "politics" instead of quality or entertainment. Critics jerking each other off about Black Panther when virtually everyone I know who saw it said it was mediocre is an example of that.

As for the various gates occupying all of our head space. :story:
You're the one still REEEing about gamergate in 2018. You're the one that has #RehireJamesGunn in your name despite him getting another job. You're the one that spent a wedding tweeting about Trump.

That's why I love Blade. A movie with a black lead and no love interest that didn't make any fuss about it.

I don't know what's more pathetic. Bob sitting alone pretending to be with friends just for a "sick burn", or him hanging out with friends but spending all of that time hunched over his phone tweeting obsessively.
Being friends wit Blobbo would be even more pathetic

I honestly don't think reviewers are paid off. I think the issue is that the relationship between nerd culture and the media is so incestious that you don't really need to bribe anyone, Bob is an absolute fanboy and his attempts to critique reflect that-why would marvel bribe bob when he does it for free?

anybody who thinks last jedi is a 10/10 film or describes the movie as 'great' rather than 'good' is either lying, desensitised by the sheer quality of total shit they have to watch or is grossly unqualified. Even if you like it, we're talking a 7/10 fun action romp here. It isnt The Godfather, it isnt Gladiator, it isnt Alien, it isnt even the Terminator. The only way this sort of
autistic.png
occurs is if you've got people who grew up with star wars while failing to grow up.
The actual critics genrally said the film was 'alright', which is the correct response because a film with fucking porg scenes.. Bob isnt an actual critic.
