The idea that attractiveness, or "conventional attractiveness" is political appeals to repulsive people like Bob because they can assign some false sense of nobility to them being out of shape slobs with poor hygiene. Like they're rebelling against some nasty aspect of society, when the reality is they fail at being even moderately attractive because of a combination of genetics, laziness, and personal incompetence.

It also lets them cling to the idea that the objects of their own lust can be reeducated into finding them attractive (the objects of their lust are almost always conventionally attractive and laughably out of their league, as Bob has shown is the case with himself numerous times).
