Most of the people Bob befriends online don't give a rats ass about him. They either see him as a useful idiot or just somebody to tolerate because he holds the right opinions. He could literally die tomorrow and not a single one of them would attend his funeral. Or even merely express their condolences on social media.
Bob still has yet to learn the people who actually matter in life. If you were laying in a hospital bed, who would come and visit you? Who would be by your side trying to cheer you up? Who would be the ones crying when the bad news hit?
But that doesn't matter to him. The people who hold the views that he deems superior are the ones who matter above all else.

It's so obvious that him getting behind Bernie has absolutely nothing to do with liking the man or his politics and everything to do with him grudgingly and grumpily succumbing to peer pressure (peer in this case not being his actual peers, but the people he wants to be his peers). What Robert really wanted was a neoliberal candidate who would take a hardline stance against those hated obsoletes. Since both Biden and Bernie have said things expressing sympathy for poor working class white Americans, he's going with Bernie because Bernie is the cool one in online leftie circles.

I guarantee you Bob was elated for the rest of the day when Russ Pitts brought him back to the Escapist. That gig as their resident movie critic was his dream job, he was not happy to be booted back to ScrewAttack, and then Geek.com. He was even smugger than usual when people complained about him being re-hired.
If I were him, my biggest day-to-day fear wouldn't be obsolete mayonnaise ghouls in the Rust Belt, but the very real likelihood of getting axed again as the Escapist continues to flounder.
