It's actually suggested that the big reason Murphy didn't kill himself in spite of the pain and agony is because he was a devoted Catholic; suicide is a sin and he refuses to follow on that. Since we're still on a Forest Gump kick, I remember reading an interview with Kevin Murphy, from Mystery Science Theater 3000, in the book Showgirls, Teen Wolves, and Astro Zombies and he was asked what was the worst movie he's seen. I don't know if I've ever seen the movie fully from start to finish, other than on TNT or whatever, but I can see what he's saying through dim recollection.

Have you seen Robert's body? Of course he's hyped to become practically anything else. The idea that technology fails sometimes is also one his entire ideology is focused on ignoring or not knowing.

Huh. I never saw it that way or noticed the religious undertones. I saw Murphy's survival due to his strong will, as well as his desire to remember the life he had a human with a wife and kid.

The film (IMHO) was an examination of corporate culture, greed, the police state, consumerism, and the line between what separates man from machine.
