I also referenced earlier in this thread that Jonah Goldberg did confirm this feature. Because of reasons, he lost his blue checkmark for a time and was complaining about it. One of the things he complained about was the feature that you can filter out for just other blue checkmark replies in your mention - making twitter a literal caste system.
