For some reason I get Jeremy Jahns recommended to me a bit on the youtube app even though I only watch Red Letter Media, but I noticed that Jahns has a similar to Bob three-a-week upload schedule even during Wuflu by doing reviews of older movies, and is getting 150,000+ views. And from what I've seen Jahns is part of the youtube reviewer shills but not completely willing to bend the knee every time.

Bob on Escapist can't get over 50,000 views, often can't get 40,000. He literally could not do it but he needs to take a month off, no twitter, and just try and do a review about something he likes. Even someone who doesn't do movie reviews all the time like Pyrocynical will sacrifice a month of low hanging content to do something he really likes and even if you don't really care for the topic, he's actually interested in trying to pass some enthusiasm to the viewer.

For non-American frens, Ohio is a state that borders Appalachia and is the eastern most part of Midwest. It is famous for making a peanut butter chocolate candy that resembles a nut that will kill you if you eat it and sports teams that always shit the bed. An Average Joe in Middle America has reason to be concerned about a Biden Presidency due to how cozy he and the administration he served in have been to the interests of Wall Street which has sent their jobs overseas in the name of profit. Bob has no real reason to be concerned if Trump or Biden sits in the Oval Office in 2021, his pathetic "job" won't go away because of their economic policies and he barely leaves his basement so their social stances won't effect him either.

One of the reasons he puts his favored Pop Culture drivel on a pedestal, its easier to sound smart when you claim what you already love is some high work of art. He wants to sound smart and worldly but he doesn't want to put the effort into actually watching boring artistic films or examining why certain movies get critical acclaim or click with general audiences. Its a lot easier to claim the MCU as the modern day mythology than it is to explain why the winner of the Palme d'Or is a reflection of the issues facing society right now or why something he doesn't like resonates with the Average Joe.

From an objective standpoint, Bobby really doesn't have much to complain about. As someone who edits videos in his spare time, I can guarantee that nothing Bob does for his "job" is remotely difficult; speeding up the audio track and stringing pictures and videos on a timeline is not hard. The rest of it is blind consooming and writing a script, which assuredly doesn't take much effort. He has a group of fans willingly forking over money every month for his low-effort tripe. His expenses are fairly low considering he doesn't have any family to support and he's probably getting a rent discount through his aunt. Aside from theaters being closed, there's really no difference between his pre-pandemic life and now; despite claiming otherwise, Bob does not strike me as the type to go outside more than he has to.

So he has an easy job that lets him makes enough to support himself, a situation that anyone who's unemployed or underemployed would kill for. Why's he miserable, then? There's a few possibilities.

One is that he's making himself miserable through his constant, seething hatred of anyone who isn't working towards his Superior Future™. He spews out bilious epithets on a daily (even hourly) basis, practically foaming at the mouth with how much he hates whoever his senpais tell him to hate: Trump, Republicans, white people, straight people, Christians, wrongthinkers, and so on. Due to his belief that only the Democrats will bring about his Superior Future™ where he'll have his robot body and sexbot waifu and live on a spaceship and nobody will ever criticize him again, he effectively plunges headlong into misery by having his thoughts consumed by this unending rage.

Another is that he's got undiagnosed depression of some form. Despite having a relatively easy life, Bob is probably aware that it's not really where he wanted to be. He's pushing 40 and he's made zero in-roads into anything beyond low-budget movie reviews for the lowest bidder. Sure, he tries to disguise this reality through bravado, claiming "they hate me cuz they ain't me," but deep down he knows that he's not gonna be a Hollywood screenwriter, that all his great ideas like "Terminator but Skynet is the good guy" and "Care Bears meets Paradise Lost" will never go beyond his drunken ramblings. Add to that the lack of any kind of serious relationship, and Bob's probably beginning a slide into his midlife crisis.

Maybe it's just autism.

Point is, Bob's pretty much doing it to himself. He doesn't eat right or exercise (yeah, I totally believe you're eating tiny salads now, Blobbo), he doesn't have a life beyond soulless corporate cash grabs, and he's never going to make anything of himself. When you're stewing in your own resentment and anger all day, it's no fucking surprise you're gonna feel like shit.

I think the main reason is that Robert always felt like he deserves so much more. It's evident from his book. He's a major sufferer of protagonist syndrome, and feels like he deserves an awesome, high paying job in the entertainment industry where he can rub elbows with the likes of Shigeru Miyamoto, and some hot supermodel looking chick with giant tits or several. He thinks he deserves all of these things because he's so much smarter and more virtuous than everyone around him, despite showing no evidence whatsoever of this in his accomplishments. He also takes his outcast status as proof of his superior intelligence and virtue because that's what 90's teen movies and shows about nerds taught him.

Lots of teenage boys harbor feelings something like this, but most grow the fuck up and realize that they usually get out of life and other people what they give, and that they aren't inherently owed anything just for existing. Robert never grew up. He's an emotionally stunted manchild in the worst way and he's very bitter that he never got his movie ending where the nerd gets the hot girl, a cool dream job, and the whole school cheering him while the jock chads who laughed at him get their comeuppance.
