This thread is probably filled with multiple hundreds of posts about how Bobby would be considered...sub-optimal at best in the Brave New World he is daydreaming would come to pass, so I'll just get on and say that Bobby is too incompetent to be any sort of high official in his dream dictatorship, and will likely get overthrown quickly in any sort of peasant uprising.
Also, while Bob certainly is of the antitheistic sort, I wonder if he is influenced by his consumer media (because Bob is the textbook consoomer) into believing in some sort of impersonal Force-type power that controls and binds the universe together. Maybe it explains why he believes his Superior Future is some inevitable fate predetermined to happen because "right side of history".
Humans, for better or for worse, are predisposed to seek out something greater than themselves to serve. This can be God, money, your own ego, Twitter, and so on. God has been eliminated from public life in the name of "the separation of church and state" (which does not mean what Bob thinks it means), and the bulk of the Democrat party is actively hostile towards the idea of God.
This means that they need to find a different entity to worship. In this case, the god they have made for themselves is called "progress," though they call it by many names. Progress is a god that makes no demands of you. Progress promises that a brighter future is just around the corner if only you believe. Progress does not demand you look back on the shameful mistakes of your past- only that you look forward to the future where all is well; in fact, if you follow Progress, you will wind up on "the right side of history," and you won't need to ever worry about the past. And anyone you don't like can be castigated, attacked, exiled, and even killed in the name of Progress. Anything can be justified in Progress's name, as the glorious end result makes it all worthwhile.
Bob claims to be an atheist, but in truth, he has simply swapped the Judeo-Christian God for a god of another sort. Bob kneels (as best as he can, anyway) before the altar of Progress because Progress won't demand that he lose his gunt, love and forgive his enemies, or improve as a human being. No, Progress will give Bob his robot body, his big titty tranny Asian waifu, moon wheat, and a Superior Future, and Bob doesn't need to do a thing. In Bob's eyes, Progress is inevitable and unstoppable, and will pave the way for space travel as soon as those wasteland ghouls accept their obsolescence and get out of the way.
Progress is a failure of a god if it can be stopped so easily by obsolete, blue collar workers, yet Bob still believes in it. In that regard, he has more faith than most Evangelicals and Fundamentalists. For someone claiming to be on the thinker side of the "thinker vs. believer" debate, he's ironically one of the most fervent believers on the planet.
Fitting, really.
