I grew up in the age of the N64 and even then it wasn't common to know kids with an N64/Dreamcast or N64/Playstation combo. Most parents bought one console for their kids if they bought them video games at all. If my brother or I wanted to play a Playstation or Dreamcast game we had to go over to a friend's house. I guarantee you that the question "can I get a Playstation?" would be answered with "No, you already have a Sega/Nintendo at home." by most parents in those days.

Hell, my household was that way up until my brother and I got income of our own and bought ourselves a secondhand 360 for Skyrim.

I remember when I got my first job and was able to buy a PS2 in addition to my Gamecube. I felt like a fucking god.

I don't think that he actually did know. You're underestimating two things here. One is the ability of an autist like Robert here to fail to read between the lines.
