So if Chris' has no idea, two options present themselves. While this is a highly amusing bit of fanfiction, I really think the simplest explanation is the likeliest: yes, Bob and The Chippa are indeed dumb enough to think masks = 100% protection against the coof. You don't have to look to specimens as dumb as the denizens of the House of Chipman to find people who are lunatics on the subject of masks. They've become a political symbol of bElIeViNg ThE sCiEnCe (or of political conformity; take your pick) or of rebelliousness, and there are plenty of people who really do seem to think they'll protect you against all the world's ills. Most of all, they've become a 21st century version of witch bottles or wearing rosaries or burning incense: a superstitious charm against the deadly miasma.

Now ask yourself: is Bob, and by extension his increasingly deranged brother, who seems to be contracting whatever illness plagues Bob's pudding brain, doctrinaire enough to believe in masks as a symbol of political rightness? Commie Pope is specifically not OK with gays getting married. He outright said marriage is between a man and a woman, and that every thing in the entirety of Christian works is very clear on that.

He said it isn't for him to judge, which is what his religion says to do, that being gay doesn't make you not human and worthy of the dignity and respect that humans deserve, but that they probably shouldn't act on their homosexuality because of the whole sin thing.

What he did say is that they deserve to be able to have families like anyone else, and the same protections for their relationships anyone else can have so they should be granted civil unions. They just can't be called marriages. Marriage is a sacrament in catholicism, unlike most protestant sects.

He was arguing for what most "no" people were for gay marriage in the US and got crucified for. He wasn't messing with the orthopraxy and orthodoxy of the church he runs, which is actually an important point.
