As far as I know, Trump never wished to eliminate large swathes of his own countrymen over a weird mix of political disagreements and childhood resentment holdover. ROTJ was not a cultural milestone. Just the ending movie to a popular trilogy. I mean, why not start the Millennial clock at 1977, when Star Wars was kickstarted? Or 1984, when The Terminator (a movie that was to greatly influence Sci Fi for the next few decades) was made? Some movies are cultural touchstones, but only a coomer like Bob would think you could use them to define an entire generation.

Generation X was, socially, the first post-Boomer generation, dealing with the fallout of widespread social changes, such as skyrocketing divorce rates and women entering the workforce in droves. Gen X was also the first generation of kids to be widely aborted. Gen X kids often lived in the shadow of their Boomer forebears, since pop culture at the time was largely pandering to Boomer nostalgia. As such, Gen X-ers were often cynical, knowing they'd never live in the kind of Boomer Golden Age they saw being portrayed in the media at the time.

MovieBlob wants to be part of the Gen X generation because he likes the idea of being cynical and above it all. He also wants in on all of the Gen-X nostalgia bait being created now (like the series, Stranger Things,) The thing is, all of the culture stuff that Bob wanks over was largely a product of the late 80s and early 90s - Nintendo, Nickelodeon, Batman TAS. Early 80's things like Star Wars and Transformers were largely waning or preparing to take on other forms by the time Bob got to them, although he certainly could have become familiar with them via VHS tapes. The point is that Bob's childhood would have been centered from the years 1985-1995, which puts him firmly in the Millennial camp.
