It's actually really complicated historically and ecclesiologically since there were a few branches of eastern churches for a very long time, but some reestablished communion with Rome in the 16th century and turned away from Syriac liturgies, some maintained Syriac, some are under the Church of the East (the Persian Church), etc. I think there are 8 different historically Indian branches of Christianity. They fit into Indian society in strange ways too, but usually nearer the top of the caste system. You can still visit the Tomb of St Thomas as a pilgrimage site in India.

These people disgust me.
