How will Bob react to seeing the Mario film?

I'm not sure but for the first few years after VJ day, America did definitely supress any form of Imperial Japanese culture or symbolism. I remember hearing about American troops banning a martial arts club because the kanji for ”martial arts club” were mistranslated as ”Military Virtues Association”, for instance, so it wouldn't surprise me.
Of course, in this case it's not at all unusual for Kurosawa -- it's not like the rest of his films were all chest-thumping glorification or anything.

There's an anecdote about how Dostoyevsky was pressured by his editors to tone down a subplot that would offend people. The mental image of someone saying "Fyodor, this just won't do" really amuses me for some reason, and I'd be interested in seeing how de-Nazification / de-militarism impacted cinema.

The Zatoichi films always had a strong theme of the bad guys being people in power using their power for selfish reasons. I can't help but think there's a deliberate comment there, even though that's a perfectly reasonable message to give.

It's amazing that educated critics like Roger Ebert watched new cuts of previously panned films and updated their reviews.
Not enough, for my liking. He was a disciple of Kael, and it colored all of his views and preconceptions. He genuinely thought the soul of America was at stake.

It's bizarre to me how these types want us to let everybody in in the name of God, when he literally has his Chosen People commit genocide to get living room for their ethnostate.
It's a weird dynamic. No progressive legislation in this country ever made traction without a healthy dollop of religion, You see how well the libs fared without the help of Catholics.

At the same time, that loony text was written in a period when the Rapture was expected any day now. It's reactionary by nature.

It's also why churches continue to splinter into evangelical groupings.

Hydra was portrayed as an organization using the Nazis for their own goals in the film. Heck Red Skull killed more actual Nazis in the movie than any other character.
Yeah, he's the Marvel equivalent of Vandal Savage.

I never cared for Red Skull in the first place, even in his comic incarnation. His goals and motivations seem foggy to me. Maybe I'm asking too much from the funny books; but you should be able to look at a comic book character and tell what they're about.

The Rapture is a concept invented by Prods in the middle of the 19th century. It has nothing to do with the Hebrew Bible which was written well before the birth of Christ.

God was trying to defend the Israelites, who he had a covenant with and who were, at that time, basically his chosen people, from everyone else who hated them. It's hard to see how he could have done that without ”killing people left and right”.
Dude imagines all of creation into being over a week, np. Easy Peasy, just need one day to rest.....
Make people be nice to jews without slaughtering them? OOOOF THAT'S A BIT MUCH!

The problem with that argument is it's not even unprecedented, he hardens the heart of pharaoh (pretty dick move btw) so why not just ..... make everybody elses heart on the planet.... whatever the opposite of hardened is.... (squishy?) towards the Jews?

Either that was too much for the Father of Creation or he liked it better when they were killing people.... (Or he doesn't exists)

I see Blob can't read. ”a well regulated militia” does not mean that the people who own guns must be well regulated, but that having a well-trained army of laypeople to protect them from govermental overreach is ”necessary to the safety of a free state”. Bear in mind that this was written at a time when American militias had defeated an army they viewed as oppressive, and when the Founding Fathers basically believed that people should be entitled to overthrow a corrupt government.
he'd shit himself if he heard about Switzerland, a country where military service is compulsory for able-bodied men, and the army largely consists of civilian militias who are required to store their weapons (and until recently, their ammunition) at home in case of a foreign invasion; being in the geographical centre of Europe, invasion could potentially have come from any side, and given how mountainous the country is and how few passable routes there are, a centralised army would be severly hindered in trying to defend against it
his brain would short-circuit further when he finds out Switzerland has one of the world's lowest rates of mass shootings

Is he angry because BlackWidow is getting pushed back and he can't jerk it now? Is he angry because they didn't push it back far enough because the coof still exists and this will kill the theaters I mean people?

I cannot be the only one who had no interest in seeing the backstory of a character who was literally wiped away from all existence and the movie's failure will be blamed on any scapegoat and not on that people just do not care anymore.

> NATO balked

I know Bob thinks corporations should run the world, but this is autistic even for him.
I honestly don't even understand what he's getting at. Is he saying that because theaters aren't opening up, which I'm pretty sure they are mostly in the US, that Disney's punishing them by pushing the release date back 4 months? Is WB and Paramount NATO in this context? It all makes my front head hurt and my mouth taste like copper.

What did St Paul say about the Rapture?
1 Corinthians 15:50-52

50 Now this is what I am saying, brothers and sisters: Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I will tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

Now that's not exactly the rapture in the wacky televangelist sense, rather it's the Resurrection of the Dead. But Paul and other early Christians believed there would be a transformation of humans and the world at some point, and that it might well happen in their lifetime.

The timing of that movie.... I like the character, but this movie should have been out 5+ years ago... when she was still alive in the MCU.

The bodily resurrection of the dead is a Christian belief and is one that has been part of Christian teaching since the early Church - the Apostles' Creed says ”I believe in... the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting”, for instance.

The Evangelical Protestant idea that righteous Christians will be assumed bodily into Heaven at the beginning of the ”time of tribulation”, however, is not. It also strikes me as a perversion of Catholic Mariology; we believe that the Virgin Mary was assumed bodily into Heaven at the end of her life, they believe that Mary was just an ordinary woman, ergo ordinary people can be assumed bodily into Heaven.

Bob is hilariously stupid. Let's think this through:

If the theater owners were "counting" on Black Widow, why didn't they meet Disney's price? That only makes sense if they're unable to.

If the theater owners said "Exclusive rights to show Black Widow is not worth what you are asking" how is Disney "flexing" by "refusing" to sell it to them? Is that called "flexing" or "failing to make a sale?"

At any rate, I'm sure the Disney+ release will be at least as successful as Mulan.

EDIT TO ADD: I am reasonably sure in this context NATO is the National Alliance of Theater Owners. Although it is hilarious.

EDIT #2: Er, "Association." Not "Alliance."

All I know is that Bob apparently doesn't like it. That's enough for me.

Depends which Protestants you ask. I'm firmly of the belief that 90% of the verses about the rapture and tribulation are about the Jewish war from 67-74 AD and the destruction of the temple in 70. Even so, early Christians clearly didn't expect that they would forever continue to exist in a corrupt and sinful world, and God would eventually do SOMETHING to make it right, which was usually spoken of in close connection with resurrection. Seems to me they would've thought it it in terms of restoring the earth rather than escaping to heaven, but nevermind.

The only point I'm trying to make is that they thought it was entirely possible that it (whatever "it" was) would happen within their lifetime, and even seemed to be a little surprised when it didn't.

NATO is the National Association of Theater Owners. They are a trade group that does things like lobby against soda taxes, advertise how the movie ratings system works, issue PR statements about whether theaters are safe from mass shootings, etc.

They do not negotiate the release date of movies or the pricing terms between studios and particular theaters or theater chains. Benefit of the doubt, he's just using "NATO" as a shorthand for "the movie exhibition industry" but more likely he's just a dumbass.
