Honestly? This had probably been said here before, but is Bobby's obsession with the Sooperiyah Fyootchah stem from the fact that it's his only chance of ever being anything more than just a basement-dwelling fatfuck failure?
I think it's the only way he can fight the elemental dread that comes with knowing he will die someday: That trans humanism is the only thing that will save him from winking out of existence.
While some take solace in religion and the idea of a possible afterlife, Bob takes his solace in futurism.
And while the afterlife, should it exist, has and always will exist.... so no mortal planning is needed? Bobby's afterlife is only possible if futurism wins the day and becomes global policy.
In essence, he doesn't believe in Heaven, but, believes it can be built my mortal men. And if he dies before Heaven can be built, he won't get in, and that project is wayyyyyyyyyy behind schedule and over budget.
That's why he simps for the future, it's the only way he can rationalize away his own fretting about death.
