It's a pretty close issue. A plurality of the national population supports the safe, legal, and rare argument, but quickly fall into the pro-life category when it's taken to the extremes. Since we're a republic, every state has their own opinion on the matter with much broader margins of support. California might go 80% pro-choice and Alabama might go 80% pro-life.
For the most part, people from Alabama don't give a shit what California's abortion laws are because California isn't Alabama. California despises the fact that they can't control Alabama's laws so they chimp out at the federal level and ruin it for everyone. It's a simple state's rights issue but unfortunately a shitload of people think they have the right to control the legislation in states 2500 miles (4023 km) away that they will never visit.
Edit- Non-Americans probably don't realize that we don't have federal murder laws. When you kill someone, you're tried at the state level under a state law established by the state legislature and governor. If convicted, you serve your time in a state prison and any restitution is payed to the victims and/or the state. You never hear them complain about that.
cheers man,
i get that different states have different values, i just was inferring that if the dems/libs think abortion for all is a hill worth dying on then they should run on it as a major part of their platform at a state level
over here the news keeps stating that women have lost their constitutional right to an abortion, but thats not correct right? the reason it was overturned was because the ruling itself was unconstitutional., and unelected god kings who are in position for life probably shouldnt be legislating from the court.
