i get that different states have different values, i just was inferring that if the dems/libs think abortion for all is a hill worth dying on then they should run on it as a major part of their platform at a state level
The biggest issue the party would have,
@Salt_Merchant, is that not every state in the US is liberal enough for abortion to be legal the way they want it to be in all 50 states. This is why there is so much bouncing and squeaking over Roe v. Wade's overturning because there is no longer federal basis for legal abortion. This is also why the Dems are now challenging state-level abortion restrictions and bans with the hope that courts will somehow require all 50 states to have legal unrestricted abortion in the absence of a Federal law.
Bonus: from a nature appreciation Facebook group. I guess we are now larping that you won't even be able to say the word "abortion" in Michigan:
I wonder where this is coming from. If I recall, Michigan's Governor had an an abortion in her past. Regardless, she's staunchly pro-abortion as is the attorney general and they are both attempting to persuade the Democratic-majority Michigan Supreme Court to throw out Michigan's old 1931 anti-abortion law as unconstitutional. The AG has also stated that if the old law isn't overturned, she will simply ignore it. There's also a petition drive that, if passed, would amend the Michigan Constitution to keep abortion legal and make it more difficult to restrict in any way.
Not a chimpout, but the text spam has started coming in and they're being racist sexist assholes addressing me by some random huwite womxn name
TBH, Nearly every political spam text message I've received with an opening greeting has the wrong name attached to it. In the days leading up to the 2020 election, people called the office I worked at then asking for nonexistent persons. When told they had the wrong number, they simply replied, "Well maybe you can help me instead..." and started asking prying political questions.
In my state, despite the call to vote in more Democrats at all levels in the mid-term cycle (and our Gubernatorial election), the number of absentee ballots received so far is lower than usual. I'm not sure what this will mean once November comes and goes.
Edited to add: In terms of chimpouts, I've seen the following comments on social media following the ruling:
- Men don't deserve a say regarding "reproductive rights," and
- The Supreme Court shouldn't be allowed to overturn itself.
If some of the people stating the first point also believe unironically that trans men are men and capable of being pregnant males, aren't they saying pregnant FTM transgendered people deserve no say regarding what happens to them?
As for the second point, I don't think the people stating this realize that stuff such as racial discrimination would still be legal if the Supreme Court was never allowed to overturn its prior rulings. How many times has the buzz phrase "the law needs to keep up with changing times" been used throughout history? According to these folks, though, the law should only change if it changes in their favor.
