Most communities that I've encountered on the web have a subset of roleplayers; people who enjoy taking on the role of a character in a fictional scenario and detailing their actions and reactions as a creative writing exercise. The term is most associated with tabletop games such as Dungeons & Dragons but can refer to a wide variety of activities, all with varying degrees of immersion. This thread is primarily about the tabletop style of roleplaying, but includes roleplaying on games, forums and using instant messaging services.

I started roleplaying in my very early teens, shortly after I gained access to the internet. Since then I've enjoyed playing numerous classic D&D (3.5 Edition for the most part) and Pathfinder games, usually by way of the facilities provided by www.roll20.net. I've also been involved in a lot of 'freeform' roleplaying projects, such as forum RPG's and simpler, more immersive instant-messaging games.

The purpose of this thread is primarily to discuss and share roleplaying experiences, favorite genres and mechanical systems. I've noticed that an awful lot of forums have roleplayers on them, but rarely have topics dedicated to the art & science itself. Since I've had a great deal of fun sharing and hearing the stories of others on the subject, I figured that it wouldn't hurt to reach out and see if there's anybody else on the farms who enjoys this form of recreation.

There are already two threads like this btw. :p Maybe a mod who is not on mobile can merge them.

Eh, my apologies. A merger would be pretty nice; I can just edit the content involved. Any links to the threads in question?
