ROMHacking.net is shutting down after 20 years of service

For all the tranny mobbing of retro games and romhacking, they don't produce any good content. I haven't seen a tranny made hack or translation that I thought was good. Lately there has been less good homebrew as well for multiple systems. Trannies are parasites who just suck the blood out of everything productive they are allowed to infest - whether it be career fields (Programming obviously) or hobbies.
Trannies are a symptom of the larger problem: critical marxism. They can only complain and destroy. They can never create lasting good for society.

I know some people really hate pre-patched ROMs and the legality issues of promoting them. But it's a convenience that allows more people to play hacks and translations easily without searching for specific ROM versions and patch programs. I rarely patch anything myself now because I usually don't have to take the extra steps anymore. Although I think it's important to familiarize yourself with the patching process regardless.

Butthurt trannies going after Spike for his conflict of interest sites even though he has chosen not to provide pre-patched ROMs when the author of the patch objects, such as in the case of Addie no Okurimono: To Moze from Addie. Instead he offers the ROM itself and a link to the patch. The readme for the patch calls out Spike specifically too.

This patch is entirely fan-made and unofficial.
Please do NOT redistribute this patch in bad faith--
whether by pre-installed roms (looking at you, Spike)
or physical discs. Do not sell or buy this patch under
any circumstances.

This was a labor of love, and those bad faith actions
not only insult us, but also endangers fan translation
as a whole.

Thank you for understanding.

I suppose having romhacks.org would make it more convenient to find the patches for games that the patch author doesn't want uploaded in pre-patched format. It's not really a bad idea at all. At the end of the day there are a lot of people who will search for pre-patched first. You cannot avoid this and it's always going to exist whether or not you condone your patch being used. Those patches exist for the sole purpose of unofficial hacks and translations not condoned by the original developers or lol Nintendo (and Nintenfags who report everything to their Nintengods). The only thing missing from the equation is the lack of the ROM file itself. But they are made full well knowing that the process usually requires piracy to work. So don't act so sanctimonious you autistic dickbags.

Mutahar just uploaded a video about RHDN shutting down.

Muta you know its discord troons. Just fucking admit what you know to be true.

Discord and the troonyism it brings is a cancer to what ever it attaches itself to.
>Discord Staff
Just look at how these people talk about themselves. They didn't work for NightCrawler. The site owner wasn't even in the Discord. It's inevitable. Whenever some public project moves to discord sooner or later completely unrelated troons will show up and be there at the keyboard 24/7 to derail it and start gayops.

As someone who might know more than some of you about the RHDN Discord, allow me to politely suggest that before you get the TTD hammer out to beat down this nail, that you guys might want to wait for actual receipts of this doxing and gayops before you take Nightcrawler's story at face value. (Especially considering the fact that he invoked the name of Near, something that you all would normally find suspicious.) For many years, he's been known as a standoffish guy who is really stubborn and difficult to work with. The reason why kandowontu (spokesperson of RHDO) changed websites is because he was infuriated by how RHDN was run and how NC had essentially abdicated responsiblity for the site, so much so that he eventually got banned from the RHDN Discord because he wouldn't shut up about it even though, as has been already established, the Discord didn't like how RHDN was run either.

BTW, I want to make something very clear here since it's not obvious and many of you don't seem aware of it: Despite being associated with the site, the staff of the (former) RHDN Discord does not and has never had any say over how RHDN was run. Aside from a couple of Discord admins paying $200 a month to keep the site running, the staff of the Discord and the staff of RHDN and its forums are completely separate from each other. Notice how the Dynamic-Designs people haven't said anything about the Discord; they've just been talking about the site. (Fun fact: Pennywise, who Recca namedropped as someone who was driven off of RHDN by leftists, is a mod on the Discord.)

The Discord admins' story is that NC was given access to their private channel to start "phase 2" of the RHDN handover, after which he promptly scraped all of the posts on the channel, found out that the mods had talked shit about him a number of times in the past, and got pissy and took his ball home. I don't know if that is true, but it's at least as plausible as what NC is saying. And while the former RHDN Discord is pretty pozzed, the admins there aren't the type to dox or threaten someone over how they run a website. (They might be the type to gayop, but considering the fact that NC was going to give them the site anyway, it doesn't really make sense for them to do so.) If you want evidence of this, there's a "free-speech zone" channel named #quarantine on the Discord. The channel has been around for about 4 years, and during that entire time I don't know of anyone who has been retaliated against for what they've said there, despite the fact that there are plenty of comments that would send the average wokie or troon running for the fainting couch. But you don't have to take my word for it--the Discord is public, and invite links aren't too hard to find.

tl;dr: The RHDN website and forums are almost completely separate from the former RHDN Discord. While the Discord is pozzed, most of the wokerot entryism was confined to the site and forums, and most of your anti-troon hatred should be directed at them. Despite this, Nightcrawler's accusations were against the Discord, and there's no evidence other than he said/she said of which side is telling the truth.

I feel like he's obfuscating the actual reasons, which makes me suspicious. But what I especially dislike is the insinuation that KF has something to do with 'doxing' him (dox that no one has shown in public, let alone here, which are probably boring anyway). Look at the reaction to the site closing down here, by and large those of us that pay attention to emu are saddened by its closing and we're not celebrating it at all.

I don't know Spike apart from him being the admin of Romhacks.org but I can tell he isn't a leftist snowflake because he is still sharing that patch, despite being called out in the patch (I assume he has read it). He probably chuckles reading it.

If he was a leftist admin, he would probably sperg out publicly and ban the patch.

Thanks for the additional info. I myself don't want to touch Discord because it is shit and gay but if anyone else wants to share useful or interesting screenshots from there, go right ahead.

Genuinely sad to see. Decades of community created content will be lost. I spent a time as a Submission reviewer there. Even nominated a few submission reviewers on my way out. I guess the last bastion is RHDO and I know the guy who runs it. Talented group of modders with him too and honestly trying to do a good thing for mod/hack enjoyers. I've seen some shit on RHDO but it's like 6+ months old so it's either we have that or nothing.

Since RHDN is going down and I'm no longer under and obligation to remain silent, I'm the infamous evil bully that apparently harassed DDS/Retro Tom into the 'No Slur' patch for Goemon. I wasnt allowed to say shit but NicheGamer just published straight up lies about the whole situation. What REALLY happened is that translators often do direct translation. Sometimes you have to pick the closest equivalent. Unfortunately a hurtful word was used and I pointed to site policy on hatespeech to them via DM and they were being harassed by free speech nut jobs and people pissed they included a slur and deactivated. So while NicheGamer directed people to my personal social media's, used my real name and really made it out like I bullied them offline or something stupid, DDS/RetroTom had deactivated and couldn't comment and NC who ran RHDN didn't want ANY controversy due to the legal grey area within which mods/hacks operate so I couldn't say anything while absolute psychos harassed me and made up insane bs to be insane about.

But there you go. The true story. Crazy people made up lies to believe and harassed everyone when the truth was the translators chose a more era and region accurate word for a higher quality translation and inline with RHDN site policy

I left RHDN over that mess

Here's the Niche gamer article in question:

Key bit from the Goemon translator:
Seeing how all of this has turned out… It’s really crushed me. If one single word that I didn’t even know was so inexcusable caused this sort of uproar, what other words are off limits without my knowing? To be honest, the very thought terrifies me.

This whole thing has crushed my passion for translating, video games, and even simply writing in general. I can’t continue with it.”

Though this guy is trying to main-character his way into the story (everyone knows that Kurt Kalata of Hardcore Gaming 101 was the one who incited the woke mob against Tom), I think we can all agree that this is accountability-dodging bullshit on par with when Dong Long Gone said that all he was doing was having "girl talks" with CEOs' wives. He's clearly an example of the wokerot I was talking about.
It's actually this one:
Now, the Twitter account for DDS Translation has now been deleted, and the fan translation patch has updated to seemingly only allow the “slur free patch.”

An anonymous source has also revealed to us that Glen Nilsson had contacted both DDS Translation and the original translator of the Goemon 3 patch via Twitter [1, 2], prior to their accounts being deleted.

Nilsson is a “Submission Reviewer” for Romhacking.net (where the fan-translation patch of Goemon 3 was hosted), along with Co-host and Producer of YouTube channel DudeGoBack, Admin of The Metal Review, a Writer for The Digital Fix, and an indie game developer.

In addition, the patch has now seemingly been updated to version 4.0. There is now no warning of “controversial text” in the readme file, instead stating the only change in version 4.0 as “Reverts a word back to Japanese.” The page for the game on Romhacking.net states the 4.0 version was uploaded on February 8th, the same say Nilsson reached our to DDS Translation.
I ask you, where's the lie?

I’m working on downloading the data from archive.org onto an external hard drive. I don’t trust the site to keep all those ROM’s up given the history of Nintendo putting up a fight.

How big is the actual torrent? I've got a big HDD.

It's 12gb of patches, not games, hence the smaller size download.

Pre-patching roms has been discussed a little bit here, and of course a lot of people want them to avoid the extra steps, but hosting those is not a good idea. We know that RHDN had never been DMCA'd or sued, but that's the consequence of hosting actual games, while patches are still considered fair use (for now). No one is ever going to stop anyone from downloading every single game that's ever existed, but what's happened here is that the patches could be lost. That, we can't replace. I'm so glad that RHDN didn't suddenly disappear at the beginning of the year for no reason.

I have the archive, and so do a lot of people. Twelve gigs is nothing these days, and you don't have to download a very large torrent that contains CD/DVD/Blu-ray media. You can share the patches and rip or download the games that you actually want to patch.

The archive has neatly sorted patches in one .zip file and sql in another. I have no doubt they will all be hosted at a competitor within days, and you have the site archive in the package as well. I hope that the creators that have worked on all of these patches can find a reliable place to share their updates.

If that's the article that "shadeaurion" the RHDN submission reviewer is complaining about, then he sounds like he's being hysterical, the same way troons are hysterical about the supposed "trans genocide." The article sounds pretty plain and factual and at no point did it inspire me to go "Glen Nilsson MUST DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!"

By the way, the Japanese title of the game in question (Ganbare Goemon 3: Shishijūrokubē no Karakuri Manji Gatame) is がんばれゴエモン3~獅子重禄兵衛のからくり卍固め~

I would like to direct everyone's eyeballs to this Kanji: 卍

I've also constructed a big version of 卍:

卍卍卍卍 卍
卍 卍
卍 卍
卍卍卍卍卍卍卍
卍 卍
卍 卍
卍 卍卍卍卍

Edit: ASCII art failed

This is a manji, hence "manji." It predates the Nazis by thousands of years

Also yes, the 10 people on kiwi farms that care about retro gaming teamed up to take down one of the greatest utility websites ever. Big brain thoughts out there y'all.

At least the kneejerk Nintendo C&D theory is actually plausible.

NC is having a melty and Xkeeper, owner of The Cutting Room Floor and mod on the RHDN Discord, is now letting it all hang out:
