Roseanne Sitcom Revival - "Can we shut this down? We can NOT let her normalize Trump"

Whenever I mention the reboot, everyone replies with "DID YOU KNOW THAT SHE'S A TRUMP SUPPORTER?!?!"

I just want to watch a reboot of a TV show my family enjoyed when I was growing up.
I feel like I'm the only one who's life doesn't revolve around hating Trump, but maybe this will blow over, like how people don't (almost literally) bite your head off anymore when you mention the band 3 Doors Down.
 
Now for some completely different salt coming from Niggermania. They plan on boycotting the show because DJ is married to a black woman.

Just sat down and watched it with the family. It gets a bit political in the first episode(the premier is two episodes), with the core bit being Rosseaene and Jackie fighting over who they voted for, but it comes across in a fitting way I feel. Rosseanne argues to Jackie that he promised jobs and to "shake things up!". They make up at the end. There's some other neat things too, like Rosie and Dan sharing their medication with each other(bloodpressure pills, antacids, etc), treating it like a trading game because their insurance changed and didn't cover all of their medication.

Overall, the two episodes were pretty lighthearted. And even in the second episode, Mark straight away tells Rosie when she asks what he thinks he is "A boy" and just says he likes clothes with colors that pop. Fashionable stuff. Then it turns out he gets in trouble because Dan gave him a pocket knife and he brought it to school.

We enjoyed it enough. It was pretty fun to watch, and while it veered more into dramatic territory, I feel that's because they had so many years to catch up on and had to open up with something to set the scene. The 2016 election focus in the first episode was an obvious pick.
 
Didn't realize it was on tonight, but I was doing the dishes and dinner was being made so there was a bit of a racket going on. I managed to catch jabs at Harry Potter, Hillary Clinton, the pussy movement/Women's March, the "my body, my choice" being flipped on its head courtesy of Roseanne, and the knowing wink to the audience of "taking the knee" to thank the Lord for not just looking after their troops (one of whom's a family member) but for making America great again.

Just from that alone I can hear the "REE"ing across the country. Roseanne is pretty much the spiritual predecessor and successor to Last Man Standing, and yet you heard more people screeching about the former than with the latter (outside of its cancellation) even though this is of a family that clearly has issues yet somehow is still functioning. I hope this stays on the air for at least the rest of Trump's presidency.

Also John Goodman's totally worth it. You just can't hate the guy without coming off as a heartless dick.

Tons of salty liberals and blue check marks.

I watched both episodes and thought yhey were pretty good. The show has a nice nostalgic feel to it like it never stopped all those years ago. It was also refreshing o watch something that wasn’t full of bleeding heart liberalism about a middle or upper middle class family. Roseanne was one of my favorite shows growing up along with Married with Children.

The first episode with Roseanne and Jackie fighting over the election and subsequently making up was pretty good. Made me think why shitlibs and leftists would hate that message when all they do is reeeee about cutting off conservative family members. Also, the second episode with Darlene’s kid being bullied about his outfits but also not being tranny was great. Sometimes kids are weird and want to dress weird and others bully them for being different. It doesn’t mean they’re tranny, gay, or “queer” but I can see why the lgbtwtfbbq crowd would hate that message too.

Anyway, the majority of the salt stems from liberal fear that this will humanize poor whites in the rust belt. You can’t “other” them and talk about wanting them dead, like movieblob does, when they’re right in your face on national television talking about how they’re dirt poor, coupon shoppers, working minimum wage jobs and barely getting by while wanting decent healthcare and pay to support their families. They’re dealing with real issues Americans face today not whatever garbage is on Modern Family.
 
Caught bits of the two episodes last night. It feels just like the old show and handles the new issues of the modern era really well. I am interested to see how the rest of the episodes continue with these themes.

Why can't these people enjoy a laid back show about midwesterners who may have a different opinion than them?

Exactly. One other takeaway I got from it is, the way it's portrayed doesn't scream "shitty person who supports Trump" or "Shitty person who supports Hillary". It screamed "These are two old people who believed in something different, wanting better for the country, and they're getting past personal differences".

Of course, people who want Trump supporters hurt and killed and practically would celebrate if he was assassinated can't see past that. They just can't accept the concept of love family regardless of politics.

I love how Dan and Roseanne accepted their weird grandson. They want him to dress normal but it’s out of a fear of him being seen different and bullied/hurt. They love him unconditionally. Their grandson also isn’t a tumblr asshole reeeeing at them, he’s a nice kid.

SJWs don’t have that relationship with their families partly because of them m, partly because of their families. I kind of believe shows like this, sadly enough, help people and families act better towards one another.

Anyway, more salt. Fuck the message, even if I support it, when the messenger is someone I disagree with!!

Roseanne (and John) do an interview on Jimmy Kimmel's show and Jimmy brings in all the salt over Trump being president. Roseanne shuts him up. She probably won't be back on his show again.
 
Roseanne returned Tuesday. The ABC sitcom, away from the air for two decades, kicked off its revived run with especially promising returns — dominating every other Big Four telecast of the night.

The first two episodes of Roseanne, a full hour at the top of the ABC lineup, won the night by both adults 18-49 and total viewers. The show averaged a 5.1 rating in the key demo and 18.1 million viewers, rising from the first half hour to the next. The first number alone is enough to make Roseanne the highest-rated regularly-scheduled scripted show of the last few seasons, since Empire at its peak, as well as the highest-rated sitcom broadcast in over three years.

That's an incredibly strong start for the sitcom, thus far only committed to nine episodes. The easiest comparison is another revival, NBC's Will & Grace. The other reboot, one that helped jumpstart Roseanne and the current trend, premiered with a 3.0 rating in the key demo and just over 10 million viewers at the start of the season.

I have a feeling that almost all of the people bitching about Roseanne didn't even watch it. Those who did missed the point of both episodes entirely. The theme of the first episode is especially relevant and thought provoking, and would help families who are politically divided take a look at themselves .

Then again it's a show for normal, working class people. That's always been the point of the show, and those complaining about it aren't the target demographic. It's like bronies complaining that My Little Pony isn't geared enough towards adult men.
 
It is kind of telling that a show like Roseanne was so well received by TV audiences, it's almost like people just want a break from the partisanship of US politics!

Roseanne's message was 'Everyone's an arsehole' (Yes even Dan at times). So this was sorely needed.

It's also hilarious that the Roseanne hashtag on Twitter is pretty positive now. Had to scroll down pretty far to find these,
