As far as goblins being antisemitic caricatures, everyone points to that being Rowling's fault when in the text they are described simply as such: "The goblin was about a head shorter than Harry. He had a swarthy, clever face, a pointed beard and, Harry noticed, long fingers and feet."
The image they keep pulling up as antisemitic was Chris Columbus's idea. Not to mention vague antisemitic energy has been a factor in a lot of classical European villain designs, witches included. That doesn't mean everyone whose designs characters with those aspects hates Jewish people. They're just grasping at straws and trying to make a point after the fact.

The Kanye line is hilarious–he's in his mid forties. He would've been like 25 and already working as a producer for years when this series of literal childrens' books was released in America.
Actually it's not hilarious because the journalistic trend of lumping anyone who moves one toe away from the party line as believing everything else you hate, and marking that all as muh ontological evil, is only getting worse and worse.

Just like with Kayne’s West’s mental illness and the death of Queen Elizabeth II, I don’t think misfortune happening to people, even celebrities, is something to be celebrated. Think what you will about JK Rowling, but she worked hard for her money and it’s unfortunate that the financial legacy she intends to pass on to her children is in jeopardy.

The only thing “unfortunate” about this situation is that JK Rowling hasn’t gone totally bankrupt. Why? Well, unless you live under a rock (if so, no shame) you’re well aware that JK Rowling is a total transphobe, and therefore deserving of copious amounts of karmic backlash. And it seems that she is finally getting her due.
According to Bookseller.com, JK Rowling’s Wizarding World global digital publisher Pottermore saw its profits plummet by almost half after last year. The publisher is currently down 40% from its 2021 sales boom, placing its total profits at around £5.7m in the 12 months to March 31st, 2022. The previous year, Pottermore reported its earnings at £9.5m. The company describes the drop-off as “the unwinding of the Covid sales bounce during lockdown”.
And it’s true, Pottermore’s revenue skyrocketed nearly 150% during the pandemic, from £3.8m in 2020 to £9.5m the following year. The publishing organization claims that this sudden spike in profits was due to “a significantly increased appetite for digital reading during the pandemic, strong sales performance of the Harry Potter e-books and digital audiobooks, and continued investment in franchise planning in partnership with Warner Bros.”
Dishearteningly, it seems that Pottermore’s profits have not necessarily “tanked” but rather fallen back to normal levels. The company claims it delivered a “robust result” during this recent 2021/2022 interval. It also claims that it will remain “buoyant” during 2022/2023—and this may very well be the case. As of now, the Harry Potter audiobooks have cracked over one billion hours of listening time on Audible. It seems like Rowling’s legacy is like the Greek hydra: cut off one head, and two more grow in its place. Except instead of heads, it’s bags of money.
The decline in Pottermore’s profits is not likely not unique to that particular publisher alone. According to Publisher’s Weekly, print book sales are down in general. Over the first nine months of 2022, print book sales fell 4.8% compared to 2021. Individual book sales dropped from 570 million copies sold in the January through September period of 2021 to 542.6 million in 2022, around 6.6%. However, this may be more evidence of the book market balancing itself out after the pandemic, as book sales rose 8.9% throughout 2020.

JK Rowling’s abhorrent point of view about trans people aside, the books are… rough. Rereading with a modern eye, it’s hard not to cringe at how dated they feel. The lack of a diverse cast of characters is a major detriment to the series. There are only a handful of characters of color in the series, one of which Hermione awkwardly refers to as “the dark one”. Yikes. The treatment of the character of Cho Chang is also deeply problematic. As @sabiesbooks pointed out, it’s bad enough that Rowling named the only East Asian character featured in the book “Cho Chang,” and worse that Rowling characterized her as one of the most annoying and insufferable characters in the novel. Rather than moving the plot forward, Cho Chang often feels like a distraction to the main action of the book. She is the object of the main character’s turbulent teenage affections, and then is ultimately discarded and replaced with Ginny Weasley.
And speaking of bad romance, Ron and Hermione? Really? Ron spent six books being terrible to Hermione, and we’re expected to believe that he’s worthy of her love in the seventh? I would have rather seen her get with Neville Longbottom.
And this doesn’t even touch on the problematic point of view about slavery in the series. The slavery of house elves is (according to the vast majority of the characters) justifiable, and Hermione is endlessly ridiculed by both her classmates (and at times the author herself) for her Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare, mockingly named “S.P.E.W.” Hermione spends the entirety of one of the books as a sort of “bleeding heart liberal” trope, as if the abolishment of slavery is a “quaint liberal notion”.
And speaking of ugly tropes (or rather outright racist stereotypes) the goblins of the series are portrayed as “beady-eyed” and “hook-nosed” beings that control the banking system to further their own “greedy” ends. I wonder if Kanye West read these books as a child, because they’re probably where he gets a lot of his antisemitic views. Gross.
Those of us who have read the books (myself included) likely feel some embarrassment and shame for having once enjoyed them. We don’t want to pass the influence of these books on, we want to let it die. There are so many other modern stories that are far more deserving of a place in history. J

We can choose to rag on these books until the end of time, and at least that will stick it to Rowling’s great-great-great grandchildren. I volunteered longs ago with a shitty little outreach project in Edinburgh for mums involved in sex work who wanted to exit the industry. This wasn’t the era of OnlyFans; these lassies were locking their weans in at night and going to walk the streets. It was heartbreaking. It was the most grim and dangerous life and we were always waiting to hear that one of them had been found in a gutter somewhere.
The Scottish Parliament was in love with decriminalisation at the time and how sex work was fineeeee, so we were fucked to get most public grants. The work we did with these lassies and their weans was not fashionable. It was retrograde and not sex positive and yada yada. Social work btw were absolutely fucking useless and full of rhetoric about “choices”. When your kids are cold and hungry and you owe the local loan sharks, you do not have choices. Fuck off.
We were skint and about to wind up the project and try to keep in touch with the families informally to top up their energy meters, buy them some food, etc.
I honestly don’t know how she heard about us and what we did, but one day we got a letter. Just a note. Said she heard what we were doing and that she wanted to support us to support the families we were helping, “love Jo x” Ridiculous cheque in the envelope. My project head cried. I think we all cried.
She probably kept us going another eighteen months, which was long enough for us to transition dozens of mums off the streets.
I know other wee projects, shitty wee charities, wee local community things, that have exactly the same story. I don’t think anyone will ever find out how much of her money she’s given away to help people who aren’t going to be helped by the very people who shit on her for not being suitably “correct”.
I’ll always be grateful for what she did for our families, and I’ll always have her back.

I haven't seen any truly transphobic quotes from her. If that is what passes for transphobia of all things, fuck, these people should get out more to see what it looks like when people really want to offend you. From what I have seen of her, Rowling was nothing but polite and respectful in making her points, even the blunter statements like the closet picture were clearly meant in jest. And you know what? Even if she did lose her temper, I wouldn't blame her with the amount of horseshit she gets down to being doxxed for having an opinion disliked by the mob!
I'm pro trans and I frankly can't help but side with Rowling on all of this. She pointed towards the Elephant in the Room, and fuck, she does have a point - there have been incidents, as shown in other threads, of people with crystalline violent intentions pretending to be trans women (down to not even bothering to so much as shave themselves) to get into women's shelters and rape them. If a staunch feminist like Rowling takes a look at that and says that we can't ignore the element of biological sex, I must agree with her viewpoint!
One thing that really, really pisses me off with modern progressive movements (like the Antiracists, the Trans Rights crowd, and so on) is how they are willing to give a pass to literally anyone who agrees with their views to do whatever they desire, and how quickly they are to dehumanize their opponents. Fuck, I've seen scores of unironically racist assholes being defended for their behaviour because they can't really be racist, for they are black and thus lacking the power to do it (while a white or asian person would be fucking crucified for doing the same to them). Oh, you criticized them? Sorry, now you're irredemably evil because they are the good guys and thus "No bad tactics, only bad targets" as they love to say. Rowling is only human. If some assholes started picketing my house, I would hate them for it. If some people thought it ok to harass and threaten me for having a "bad" opinion, I wouldn't be patient when dealing with them. I have a soft spot for her detective novels, they're not Chandler or anything but they're fun pulp stuff.

That's incredibly admirable, especially because that's far from the only time she's done it. Even Politifact begrudgingly acknowledges that she's literally no longer a billionaire, because she gave away so much money to charities (article) (archive).
I'm fascinated with this topic because JKR is basically a secular saint. Outside of this single, very loud, circle of troons/virtue signalling lefties/weird fandom obsessives she's nearly universally beloved. But breathing a positive word about her in that circle means you're instantly excommunicated, like with that Mary Sue article–"angry retard blog post" is a better term for it. Harry Potter occupies the same cultural space as Star Wars or Mario to normie, offline millennials: the same people who grew up with it are passing it on to their kids and bonding with them over it.

Yeah I'm not even entirely against shit like trans women in women's prisons, but there's a huge world of difference between Tanisha who had SRS&transitioned years ago and is in prison for having weed while black vs Rapist Pete in the slammer for raping a 10 year old girl suddenly deciding he's a lady and deserves to go to women's prison. Iirc, Rowling has primarily been on about the latter i.e. self I.D. being the only thing required to gain access to women's facilities.
Rowling has had some dumb takes (like thinking her daughters are more oppressed than she was because internet porn exists), but I don't see why people can't just say she had a dumb take on [X] and leave it like that. Why the need to spam her with death and rape threats?
They shit on her more than they shit on conservative politicians actually enacting anti-trans laws (who at least in the US are frequently way more trans/homo/etc phobic than JK has ever been).

I have just finished reading every single english steam curator review of Hogwarts Legacy. Aside from reminding me how awful the steam curator system is and the slow rot affecting the storefronts quality out of 19 negative reviews 12 have absolutely nothing to do with the game or how it is being sold, with several gimmick reviewers specifically going against their gimmick to negatively review it. There previously were more however I do not know whether they were removed by the curator themselves or some administration. while it is debatable whether reviews before playing the game should be a thing I believe autistically screeching about a IP holder to a licensee studio is universally seen as bad. If anyone is wondering what the other reviews were they were mostly about denuvo and pricing.
