RPG Maker Games and RPG Maker Software - Amazing indie hits or shoddy shitstains?

Here's a recent one I've been pretty fond of, Pocket Mirror. It's a horror-style game but has a lot of emphasis on its story and the sheer amount of visuals - it pulls off high quality artwork, music and effects that I haven't especially found combined in other RPGMaker games. You do have to wade through a lot of character tropes, but a lot of the aesthetic in the later half of the game really emphasizes what the engine is capable of when you have dedicated work behind it.

Yup, RPG Maker 2000.

Never actually played the game. I'm both mortified that it exists yet disturbingly interested in playing it just to see was twisted little fucks could come up with it.

If you're into RPG maker games, definitely give the most infamous one of all time a try. It's from 2005 but well worth it.

I played it long ago. More or less, the game does use actually imagery of the shooters. While it does have turn-based combat, there was a sort of stealth segment before beginning the RPG rampage against students such as jocks and openly gays.

Columbin / Danny Ledonne uses a lot of misinfo and media lies in the game, despite spending "100~500 hours" on the project. The gameplay sucks. You're pretty much forced to kill every student ever in order to level up enough to survive the 2nd half of the game (Hell) which is nightmarishly difficult. If you don't trigger the right events you cant complete the game. It would've been better as a 20 minute project than a 2 hour long grindfest. Reb and Vod would be completely ashamed.

Yeah, if you missed a book in the game, you were ultimately screwed unless you had an earlier save or just edited shit with RPG Maker 2000.

The OST was cute though, it was fun to kill all those innocent pixels to some Rammstein and MM. Though IRL Eric and Dylan hated that guy.

Since OP mentioned games made in Wolf Editor, may as well point out the games Alicemare, LiEat, and 1.bit Heart. I also enjoy the games made by Mogeko/Deepsea Prisoner. Most known for Wadanohora and the Deep Blue Sea.

EDIT for fat mobile fingers.

RPG Maker has devolved into nothing more than a cash grab for Enterbrain/Degica/Whatever name they call themselves now.

Started playing Romancing Walker thanks to a recommendation from the above user, and so far it's an enjoyable game.

Was looking through some of the other games on rpgmaker.net and I was wondering if anyone here has played any of the Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest fan games that were made using rpgmaker?

Final Fantasy: Blackmoon Prophecy looks promising at first glance.

I don't play fan FF/DQ/whatever because they're usually shit and unoriginal. The only one I tried was FF Endless Nova, but got bored of it quickly. (badly implemented FF2 stat. growth, too many random encounters, lousy map design).
You may also want to give Ara Fell (rm2003, unfinished) a try. They moved on to releasing a full steam version which costs money, but I have no intention of paying for it.

It's too bad RPG Maker games automatically get a bad reputation. Corpse Party was really damn good.

Is Okay if I necro this topic?

Okay, so recently I got nostalgic for RPG Maker horror games, and I've noticed a few of them got ported to the Switch of all things--Mad Father, Witch's House, and most recently Ib all are on the eShop now.

My question is this.... do the Switch ports/remakes have anything to actually justify a purchase? Like actual new content or anything? Because I'm wondering why I wouldn't just play the free versions.

Also I thought of playing Corpse Party but I'm always confused if a release is a remake of the original game or is an all-new storyline or what the fuck. The best I've been able to fathom is I should play something called Corpse Party -rebuilt-

Late as fuck, but I think there's just slightly "improved" graphics that look weird, maybe some bonus art or collectibles thrown in depending on the specific game. I'm mostly judging this based off the Ib one but a lot of them seem to be published by the same company so I assume they're generally in the same situation. Freeware versions are fine, save your ten dollars.
