Of course, leftists always forget that both Nazis and Commies were fighting in the streets, and the Commies were probably becoming bigger terrors that their counterparts. The original Antifa not only failed to stop the rise of the NSDAP, but it probably fueled it as they were openly the paramilitary wing of the German Communist Party (itself a Stalinist puppet organization) and they defined "fascist" as "anyone not a member of the KPD" to justify murdering anyone opposed to their revolutionary violence. The Paradox of Tolerance is bullshit and the people that bleat the most about it are the exact people that caused the rise of the Third Reich more than any speech made by some Austro-Bavarian corporal with a funny mustache.

When Popper was talking about the paradox of tolerance, he wasn’t just talking about fascists, but also about communists and antifa.
Also spot on about the street battles with communists (against both other militias and police) that made many citizens go:

Well the Paradox of tolerance from my reading of it specifically addresses refusal to engage in 'the rules' of a free society and discourse rather than simply bigoted outlooks. It explicitly doesn't cover bigotry which popper believes general concensus can defeat and utilisation of force to control would be unwise.
For example you can say capitalists/minorities/whoever suck but you can't storm the capital because you decide the election is fake or say break into an animal testing lab because you're a big hippy.
Its also probably worth commenting hitler got in through some shady backroom deals with some dumb fuck German right wingers who thought they could keep him under thumb and political skullduggery once he smelt blood in the water. He never had the popular vote ever and actually lost seats in the last weimar election.
In my experiance people who talk about the Paradox of tolerance have usually read that shitty comic you see pop up.
