RPGnet Forums

But yeah, don't judge yourself against random online shitheads because you'll always look amazing in comparison.
To be fair to us, look at those shitheads. To be fair to the people at RPGNet, the almost entirely fictional people they've made up in their minds to judge themselves against are only almost entirely fictional, so there are, in fact, a few people who they hate based on who they are and what they do, rather than what RPGNet people have projected on to them.

I would also say that we're far less sanctimonious about the judging we do here. It's explicitly laid out in some of the posts from the last couple of pages - they predominantly think they are Good and those who disagree with them are Evil, and that they are fighting the fight for Good by posting on a forum for playing pretend. Their moderation explicitly encourages that worldview, kicking out the unbelievers and ensuring only the most zealous survive. Predominantly here, people know that even if they're talking about shitheads doing shithead criminal things, if you're posting about it here you're not doing it to do Good, you're doing it to have fun and ridicule people, hardly the behaviour of the Righteous.

We're shitposting. That might not make us better than them, but I reckon it makes us more honest.

Isn't it a rule or something? Pretty sure the rule is if you think you're better than the person you're talking about, YOU AREN'T. And if you have to point out that you think that, you DEFINITELY aren't.

Remember, no matter who you are, to someone, you are a lolcow too.

I don't know if anything ever went into the rules but I think the healthiest attitude to have is if you are posting on Kiwifarms you deserve to be on Kiwifarms. Even if you personally do not have a thread.

Ultimately we are the same as the people who follow reality TV or celebrity gossip. Pretending we're not is needless self-aggrandisation and delusional at best.

This is the least @AnOminous-sounding post I've ever seen. It's a guideline not a rule, it's about not getting angry over cows, and it's literally over the commentary box so there's no need to equivocate about what it means.

My point was that yes, we're all lolcows to someone, but generally, we don't think posting on the internet about how much someone sucks is an act of moral righteousness. We know we're being assholes, but the fine folks at RPGNet who spend a great deal of their time hating - not even mocking,  hating - think they are being virtuous while doing so.

We are mocking them. Which by and larger assumes that we are not as deserving of mockery as them yet to a degree at least we are. We are spending time on the internet laughing at people doing laugh worthy things on the internet. There is a degree of ouroboros to it.

By and large Kiwi Farm's posters possess enough self awareness to recognise when they get too far up their own backsides that they themselves could become at least as worthy of being mocked. As you say, we know we're not good people when we do this. And at times many of us deserve a "lol calm down" as Null occasionally provides when he pleads for us, for the love of all that is lol worthy, to stop taking things too seriously.

Part of not sliding into that is recognising that we don't have the moral high ground sometimes. Another part of it is remaining detached. If the cow/community is making you actually angry you need some distance. Which is often called out by other posters and is part of the appeal of the forum. Sites like Rpg.net don't do that and that is why eventually some of their posters devolve into something that would be indistinguishable from Stormfront and the like if the descriptors were adjusted. As soon as hating someone or some group on there becomes fashionable they will do so without an instant's hesitation.

I didn't notice this before because the pbp forum is usually pretty sedate, but mods have essentially soft banned Old Gods of Appalachia, a recent rpg based on a horror/folklore podcast.

Basically it's cheating to try and sidestep racism accusations by setting your game in an alternate Appalachia where there weren't any Indian tribes living there because that's erasure don't you know.

The poster who got the whole thing shut down was some euro who didn't know that "injun" was a no-no word when referring to POCs (people of casinos).

Honestly at this point I only follow this thread because I want to be here when this loathsome forum collapses. That "we don't have an answer yet" regarding Gygax's "genocidal colonialism" (get out of your own ass, you pretentious unwashed faggot) is just another way of saying "we haven't come up with the right excuse to ban it yet."

I'm pretty sure that they're looking for an ethnic replacement for Save vs DM so they can have an in-house indigenous expert who's automatically qualified for speaking on behalf of every indigenous group within the Americas...Since, you know, larping as one is an huge liability issue

Hey, you've seen one redskin injun, you've seen 'em all. It's not like they had hundreds of different tribes and subgroups over millennia. It's just all injuns all the way down.

Starting to think there's some kind of sympathetic magic going on here because the site shit the bed again.

Webmastering is hard.

Also, Rivendellboy finally got the chop for being too big of a pain in the neck.

Double post but it's quiet around here.

Employees at a games company vote to unionize but the company management doesn't formally recognize the union. Rpg.netters freak out and start ranting about fascist strike breakers machine gunning communists (unions are inherently communist fyi). The whole thread can be read without logging in but I clipped some good parts.

Oh fuck these fucking fucks. Noble Knight is one of the best RPG stores that has ever existed. They have a back catalog of old games so extensive that their warehouse must look like the one at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and they have one of the best customer service departments I've ever had the pleasure to deal with. The fact they're taking them to task demonstrates just how much the actual hobby means sweet fuck-all to these people. (Maybe even a very MovieBobish "people.") I don't know how widespread RPG.net's nuttery is in the real world, but it doesn't take much to kill the hobby stone dead.
