From what I've seen, it ranged from people actually planning to leave to outright believing that there will be an genocide that's specifically aimed at them. In a way, it's kind of funny; but some people are just fucking crazy to go through with an lot of shit

So... after 2016, it all kinda felt 'too soon', with regards to processing or commenting on the collective disappointment, fear, anxiety, and very real trauma of transparent fascism at the highest levels of power in the U.S. and elsewhere through the medium of running a game.

My response in 2024 is that I want to punch Nazis in Play-by-Post. Modern-day ones. Fascists coming for people's healthcare, welfare, right to exist, and mental wellbeing. Fascists coming for infrastructure, societal norms, and cultural traditions. Fascists touting policies of austerity. Fascists and their malevolent fatuousness.

Anyway, I've started thinking about running a modern-day superhero game on the PbP forums where players play superheroes fighting fascists. I haven't yet decided how four-color Silver Age-y it would be, versus more grim and modern... I'd probably want to check with potential players about that. I similarly haven't decided how mired in reality the game would be... I know I wouldn't be naming the Dear Leader BBEG 'President Trump' or something more derogatory, but I would be making the BBEG the dictator of the U.S., giving them a lieutenant who's the richest man in the world, and treating their followers like brainwashed zealots. What I don't know is if I'd be including real-world headlines as adventure seeds, or sticking to broader themes.

I think I'd like to call it 'Nazi Punch', in the interest of being blatantly transparent and for the zing factor.

So, question for the admins: is it too soon for the culture of the boards for something like this? Am I not reading the room correctly? Are there concerns about bringing external heat to the boards, from 'garbage' people or the upcoming Federal Department of Thought Prevention? Would it be better to run something like this in the protected environment of Tangency? Would you prefer that I just... not? Before I put more groundwork into this idea, I'd like to know that it doesn't give the admin team the heebie-jeebies.

I’ve pointed it out before but despite their many, many, many demonstrated and repeated faults, the staff at least consistently realize that wishing political violence on other people is fucking psychotic.

The problem is that every other option has been eliminated as being clandestine Trump support. NPCNet will tell you that Trump and his supporters are so utterly, pathologically, and irredeemably evil that reason, negotiation, compromise, and even passive coexistence are off the table. At that point, what options are left besides a total war of elimination? Oh, but you can't say that either! All you can do is impotently wring your hands, offer tearful e-hugs and sperg about #Resisting by doing nothing.

You can only ingest so many messages of identity-based harm being ubiquitous before you start to really believe it. Social anxiety evolves into paranoia. The world becomes full of people who want to kill you for your race or gender. At that point, the only possible option on the table is to strike first, killing them before they kill you. After all, your social media feed keeps telling you that this is a matter of life or death.

I slightly disagree. I think that they recognise doing so will cut off the site's revenue flow because they'd become something closer to an especially disturbing fanfic forum.

That this moron openly let their opinions show by outright repeating Biden's gaffe means it's got a direct link to advocating violence based off people's politics. Had they just "jokingly" started the game that might have flown but they have already made it clear who the targets are, also noting that they want to use headlines as plot ideas.

Someone could run a game about fighting fascism in the US. Doing it on RPG.net is a non-starter because those people will make it clear this is what they want to do to actual humans in reality. Which means all of their murder, torture, grooming and more fetishes will be on full display.

Not supporting their causes makes you evil. Therefore anything but support means you are evil and can + should be treated as an enemy. Every single thing they advocate to do to "the other side" they in fact mean they intend to do to everyone who does not completely support them 100% all of the time.
