Here comes the next current thing where people will be banned for not agreeing hard enough.

EDIT: It's about how the hadozee in the new Spelljammer book are racist.

Saw some of this autistic screeching on Twitter. All I have to say is that this is the crowd Wizards of the Coast wanted and has been courting for a few years. Fuck 'em. Let 'em drown in it.

What unfortunate implications do winged monkeys have? Is it supposed to be some veiled reference to the Magical Negro trope, or is virtually any usage of monkeys in art inherently racist? The only winged monkeys I remember are from The Wizard of Oz, and I definitely didn't think of black people when I saw them.

Sounds like the kind of "fear" they type about while breathing shallowly and drenched with sweat.
Which is especially disgusting considering most of the "women" there are actually dudes.

The lily-white RPGnet mods are incapable of seeing a monkey, an orc, or any vile creature without immediately thinking of black people. You're the racist, though.

"They were expressive—intensely so—resorting to loud whooping, fang-baring, and snarling, depending on the emotion."
"The hadozee had a great love of the elves. (The elves employed hadozee often, but did not mutually respect them.) Oftentimes, this love of elves resulted in flattery towards them."

Holy shit, the hadozee are soyjak consoomers and the elves are Current Thing.

As I'm sure it has been said many times on here, if the first real-life entity someone thinks of when they read "loud whooping, fang-baring, and snarling" is black people, there's something deeply problematic here, and it isn't the art.

Conversely, if RPGnet jannies think being "innately and actively curious and were unquenchable optimists" aren't okay to use for black people, that's on a whole new other level of WTFery and hilarity like black people can sell drugs.

Monkey+clothing = negro

That's why in planet of the apes a monkey with a coat was a metaphor for detroit: become dindu according to BLM. The fact that the minute they see a chimp in clothing they think it's a blackums is the funniest shit to me :story:

"Tolkien would have supported this" is the saddest cope of all. Bro, Tolkien practically sent death threats to people who wanted to commercialize his books during his lifetime. If you went back in time and showed him the pilot episode of RoP he'd beat you to death with a typewriter and CS Lewis would have to help him hide the body.

Well, to be fair it depends on what the monkey is wearing. Like "M.C. Primate" here, totally looks like he's about to drop some sick beats.

So what are the odds that this jackass catches some mod posting for trying to whitewash Tolkien’s racism for his pathetic attempt to rationalize his love for something that doesn’t neatly line up with current year sensibilities?

He’s half right. I’ve said it before but Tolkien hated racism. He hated actual racism. He famously told off the third reich when they asked if he was of Aryan Blood regarding a translation deal. He also objected to offensive caricatures of Germans. However, he’s assuming that that would line up with his modern day sensibilities: it wouldn’t and he wouldn’t stand for a bunch of television producers exercising editorial control over him either.

Everything you need to know about this person is summarised by their profile bio "What would Trudeau do?"
Don blackface? Declare martial law to crush protestors he was politically opposed to? Call everyone Nazis because he actually has no actual intelligent counter points most likely.

Keep whining like this all the way to your grave as you brag about Gavin, you deluded child. If Tolkein was still alive to this day he would have churned out dozens of pieces of work that would have included people like Lenny because he, like Pratchett, had the talent to do so. But he would not have revised his earlier works because it did not fit with modern sensibilities and trying to pretend his corpse totally has your back is like screaming "Jesus would agree with me." Pathetic.

All you need to know about how Tolkien would feel about this sort of textual desecration is that after Vatican II shitcanned the Latin Mass, Tolkien loudly and consistently continued to give the responses in Latin.
