Kastor Krieg uses criticizes a character on Star trek as being unenjoyable to what for whatever autistic reason. Mama Voodoo picks a fight by saying that the former user only dislikes her for her race. Kastor Krieg rebuffs. Mama Voodoo gets a slap on the wrist. Kastor Krieg gets a month-long ban. How's that "Social Justice Werewolf" flag you're flying treating you, Kastor?

It's a really funny line of logic.
  • Someone is attacking something I like
  • The thing they are attacking is a black person
  • Therefore, they are a racist, and attacking this black person for only that reason
  • Since I am black, this is an attack on me, personally

Such a shame he'll have to wait a month before he can go back to screaming about how Poland is a fascist hellhole.

Oh and the Trannarchy in the UK thread got locked after a tranny mod started suicide baiting.

Yeah, it's that weird inversion of morality that I think gets to the core of what's wrong with it. From the very beginning the World of Darkness games have revolved around playing characters who do bad things to some extent or another (greater extent in, say, Vampire, maybe lesser extent in something like Hunter or Mage), but the franchise's moral compass still basically points north. Doing bad things is doing bad things. If your Hunter or your Werewolf pack does something awful in the name of a greater good, it's still something awful. I'm sure plenty of 14-year-old edgelords played Sabbat campaigns in Vampire that just went torture-rape-murder-repeat, but the game doesn't come out and tell you from an omniscient narrator's perspective that you should feel good about your repeated acts of murder, rape, and torture.

And, more or less, at least in oWoD, the default position was that surrendering to the monster was the wrong thing. Oh, sure. They supported playing Sabbat games and such, but even vampire was fairly obviously pushing that the bad guys were, well, the bad guys. It often was not really a morally grey area.

The Sabbat were just murderous fuckheads, they weren't excused because they were all gay and teased in school or some shit.

The Wyrm was just maliciously corrupt... Amazingly for a company of the era, they didn't even really force the "all progress is bad" card, because even the 'good' faction of werewolves admitted that humanity had to progress, and that their initial sin was in trying too hard to prevent that.

Sometimes it was grey, and honestly sometimes they pulled it off reasonably well. Mage, for example? The technocracy has some good points, actually. Their methods and ultimate goals are bad, but they're hard to dismiss completely as 'the bad guys'.

Changeling, though...

Sigh. My poor, beloved Changeling. So close to greatness, but they completely fucked up with the Banality mechanic. It was so obviously just a thinly veiled "Whatever the writer thinks is bad is Banal, regardless of if it makes sense or not" system.

The Mary Sue debate rages on!

Cyberpunk has nothing to do with how technology doesn't fix society's problems or how far you can go before you cease to be human, it's about being able to stroke your ladydick. Get your reasonable and nuanced opinions off of our board, shitlord!
Dear CrazyIvan:

You are still a faggot.

OK, now that that's out of the way, I actually like dogstar's analysis. I don't agree with all of it, but I think it'd be worth batting around over a plate of hot wings and a mug of beer. He (or she) has put their finger pretty close to some of the core aspects of the cyberpunk mythos, if not on them.

Of course, as you say, nuanced and thoughtful reads are anathema to RPGnet.

The only winning move is not to play. I know that sounds platitudinous by now, but over and over again see businesses and artists getting excoriated for trying to pander to SJWs but just not doing enough. Almost every other game with customizable characters and dialogue makes the backwards and violent assumption that men have wide shoulders, large skulls, and narrow waists while women have breasts, wide hips, and smaller brows and no one says boo about it. For all their constant whining and crying trannies and their allies tent to understand the optics of complaining about everyone at once. This happens to a lesser degree with race and feminism, but these gender nuts are the worst.

And it's not just video games and movies and shit, the people who get cancelled are pretty much always allies or at least ally-adjacent. You're not about to see someone like William Shatner get cancelled. These nut jobs see you make an effort to win their approval and instead of thinking, "it's nice that ___ is thinking about me and trying to be inclusive" they think, "___ cares about what we think which gives me power over them." As soon as you make a gesture towards these people you might as well paint a giant target on your back.

"Get woke, go broke" is true, not because the shitlord market segment is so much more valuable than the woke segment, the issue is that any attempt to court the wokesters is as likely to alienate them as to win their favor while the shitlords are always happy for anything that panders to them. Hell, even woke-adjacent consumers are likely to be vaguely aware of the controversy that the woke are manufacturing and if they were at all ambivalent about buying your product before it's often enough to sway them.

The other argument is that controversy sells, so making your product controversial is a good way to get people to notice it in an over-saturated market. It doesn't even have to be real controversy, it can be something completely artificial. Brand your new game as "The RPG Fascists Don't Want You To Play!" and watch the money roll in, even if your game has fuck-all to do with politics. The woke will keep coming up with windmills to tilt at.
