UK Ruling limiting under-16s puberty blockers overturned

Doctors can decide whether to prescribe puberty blockers to under-16s, the Court of Appeal has ruled.
The appeal was brought by the Tavistock Trust, which runs the UK's only youth gender identity clinic.
It reverses a 2020 ruling that under-16s lacked capacity to give informed consent to the medical treatment, which delays the onset of puberty.
The original case was brought by Keira Bell, who says the clinic should have challenged her more over transitioning.
Court of Appeal judges said they recognised "the difficulties and complexities" of the issue, but that "it is for the clinicians to exercise their judgement knowing how important it is that consent is properly obtained according to the particular individual circumstances."
Puberty blockers are drugs used to "pause" puberty by suppressing the release of hormones.
They are prescribed to some children who are experiencing gender dysphoria, which the NHS describes as "a sense of unease that a person may have because of a mismatch between their biological sex and their gender identity".
The Tavistock's Gender Identity Development Service (Gids) says hormone treatment "allows young person time to consider their options and to continue to explore their developing gender identity before making decisions about irreversible forms of treatment".
But in December 2020, the High Court ruled under-13s were "highly unlikely" to be able to give informed consent to what it described as "experimental" treatment and it was "very doubtful" those aged 14 and 15 would have the sufficient understanding.
Keira Bell

Keira Bell, one of the claimants in the case, started taking puberty blockers at the age of 16 after being referred to Gids.
She told the BBC she felt there wasn't enough investigation or therapy before she reached that stage, and that the clinic should have questioned her decision more.
In March, a separate judgement from the court's Family Division ruled parents could give consent for under-16s to access puberty blockers, with other safeguarding measures considered.
The Tavistock temporarily paused new referrals to its endocrinology service following the December ruling.
Eligible under-16s who had already been referred for treatment, and have parental consent, are having their cases reviewed by Gids, with decisions overseen by an independent NHS England review group.

i would be perfectly fine if that niglet wanted to sterilise itself, they are historically medically underfunded, so this is reparations

It was always going to be overturned. My nation is a fucking joke, over 2/3rds of our government are actual foreigners. The education secretary is a dirty paki with English as his second language.

Troons and TRAs are all crowing over social media as if this is some big win for them, but they’ve not read it closely enough. Basically the courts have just pushed responsibility back onto Drs, who will now be individually liable for the long term problems caused by blockers if their detrooned patients decide to sue them later on. As a result, while in theory this means blockers can be given to children, only a Dr driven by dangerous levels of arrogance and hubris will be anything other than extremely wary in prescribing them.

The Trannyban, who control the capital London and most of the provinces of the troubled island nation, have announced a new set of rules certain to reduce women's rights even further.
How the international community should react remains highly contested, while many call for the free countries of the world, like Russia or the United Arab Emirates, to cut diplomatic ties, whereas others believe that only diplomatic pressure can force the Johnson regime to restore human rights and freedoms that only a few decades ago were widely enjoyed by british men and women alike.

Read into the Tavistock's quality of work. They've "misplaced" years worth of data on their patients. These doctors were an absolute joke, not even doing the bare minimum and should en mass have been ejected from the medical establishment with the purge going up the chain of command.

Also bear in mind that when lawsuits are brought against the NHS the UK taxpayer foots that bill too, win or lose.

This is disgusting and as someone said upthread if the appeal is not quashed when it advances up the courts it's a joke.

When I was 13, I decided that drinking my dad's beer when he was out wasn't exciting enough and decided to go to the corner shop to buy some lager. They took one look at me, asked me for ID, and when I said I'd "forgot" it told me to get out. Know why? Because I didn't have the mental capacity to understand what alcohol did. (I soon worked out that the polski sklep half a mile away would serve me, but that isn't really relevant)

If I wasn't old enough to buy a can of Stella at Patel's Food and Wine, because I didn't realise that drinking it could screw up my liver, then can someone explain to me why I should have been allowed to take puberty blockers, which would screw up my bone structure?

They're genuinely hellbent on fucking kids up anyway they can, huh?
FTFY

Seriously, that's the end game of this, plus 12+ able to agree to permanent medical procedures without parental consent. Between the P never being ejected from the LGBT+ mafia and ageism being a thing, don't be surprised when we go from "I don't see gender" to "I don't see age". It's about fucking kids. It always was and always will be.

You would think they would be even more vehemently against this, though.

Can't get a tattoo or drink a beer, but you can sterilize yourself!

I'm really starting to actually believe the "elites want to lower the population" theories....
