Running old Windows games in Windows 7

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I have this old, old game called Stars! I've tried every method here to get it to work, but I can't seem to get it running. Maybe it's just too sluggy of a game for the usual methods to work.

Of course, my laptop still runs 32 bit Vista, so if I'm really jonesing I play it on there. But that's inconvenient, I'd rather use my desktop for everything.

So if I have a copy of Windows 98 (I have two!), how would one go about this VirtualBox thing, and if I have the original discs for the games, can I just install it off of those?

I have a Windows 98 laptop but I have been experiencing problems with it, so would love to be able to move things onto this one (Windows 7 64-bit) if possible.

Google Virtualbox and download it, install, then use it to create a virtual computer of Win 98 using your disk. You should be able to install your games from within your virtual computer. PM me if you have trouble.

You mean this game right?

Have you tried compatability mode?

I tried running an XP virtual machine on vmware but it won't recognize the host video chipset (Intel GMA 3150). Drivers won't install, either. Virtualbox does this weird thing with it's native graphics accelerators that don't really work.

I played Windows 95 games on the VMware (e.g. Chip's Challenge). It's okay, but the only problem is the sound which is kinda buzzy.
