Orbiter Ryan Johnson / Randbot(2020) / "Jimmy Russell" - Alcoholic co-host of The Killstream, susceptible to ammo crates, somewhat trepidatious

What's the deal with the ammo crate thing? Like a full wooden crate of ammo, or just an ammo can? What disability did it cause him anyway?
He is an aussie, so id say there is at least a 90% chance he had a mag drop on his head and claimed disability to play some long term shitpost on the armed forces

Never trust an aussie and alway believe there is Abo Shittery afoot.

On the one hand you make a decent point but on the other hand Rand is also clearly not right in the head, so it makes sense to me that he had a legit brain injury. On the third hand though, some people are just retards without needing a crate of ammunition splattering brain matter everywhere, so who knows.

It was during a really long ass stream that involved Zoom (pedophile, liar) IIRC. I can't get you the specifics because the thing is over 7 damn hours.

The equilibrium or balance, so to speak, between his intellectual faculties and animal propensities, seems to have been destroyed. He is fitful, irreverent, indulging at times in the grossest profanity (which was not previously his custom), manifesting but little deference for his fellows, impatient of restraint or advice when it conflicts with his desires, at times pertinaciously obstinate, yet capricious and vacillating, devising many plans of future operations, which are no sooner arranged than they are abandoned in turn for others appearing more feasible. A child in his intellectual capacity and manifestations, he has the animal passions of a strong man. Previous to his injury, although untrained in the schools, he possessed a well-balanced mind, and was looked upon by those who knew him as a shrewd, smart business man, very energetic and persistent in executing all his plans of operation. In this regard his mind was radically changed, so decidedly that his friends and acquaintances said he was "no longer Gage."

He joined the Army. He clearly wasn't very bright to begin with.

While I'm not usually one to sing the praises of the Australian military, it's a lot better than the US army if you are comparing it to that. Benefits aside, as I can't speak much about what the US army can give you like medical insurance (Something that is of course actually affordable in Australia, and you get access to better doctors in the army.) or paying school loans (The Australian army will pay your debt for certain courses, and there is no interest on the debt if you're a civilian anyway). Pay wise an Australian army private will make at least $48,325 AUD ($36,651.32 USD) while a US army private will make $23,310 USD ($30,734.47 AUD). I'm pretty sure both are tax free.

Anecdote and lack of details aside, a friend of mine in the Australian army was talking to a US navy (I think navy anyway) guy and the US man was very mad at the difference of pay and benefits. You still may very well fuck up your body permanently and fight the government for some form of compensation, but that happens in either military.

We don't thank the military for their service because the government does it for us in the form of monetary compensation.

Edit: My point is, joining the Australian military isn't the worst thing you can do. Especially if you learn some kind of skill that you can actually take into the civilian market.

Rand did not have a rail-road spike fly through his skull and take parts of his brain with it, at least.

Nah it is probably just the booze, if you're drinking fairly constantly it makes you very belligerent and crazy in unpredictable ways.

I remember hearing the relevant portion of this stream and rand's reaction made me think it was true. Also, it's really funny and I don't think zoom is clever enough to have come up with it on his own. It almost seems like something so funny it has to be true.

Pay in the US military is routinely looked at from a basic pay standpoint, which everyone rates. What isn't calculated into that is BAS (Basic Allowance for Subsistence, or food) which is constant at $372.71 qa month for ALL enlisted without dependents, and BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) which varies by locale. An E-1 makes $1,722 a month as base pay, with another $372 for food and--for the purposes of this figure I used Jacksonville, NC which is where Camp Lejeune is located--which is $1,257 a month. All told, an E-1 would be making $40,352 before any taxes, which would increase (and be non-taxable) in a combat zone. However, since almost every E-1 lives on base, they don't receive BAS or BAH and only rate base pay. If memory serves, the Australian military pay charts factor in similar things (BAH and BAS) to give you the number you quoted, which I believe to be carryover from the way the British military does it as well for transparency.

Just some food for thought, please continue on about Rand.

Thanks for clearing that up, I've got no experience in the armed forces and the only things I know about/am interested in is the shooty shooty stuff. It appears that the Australian army also gives you a "Service allowance" of $13,717 AUD ($10,425.35 USD) and a uniform maintenance allowance of $682 AUD ($518.34 USD). This may be why the values on the Australian government website say that a Private-proficient can make at minimum $49,346 and at max $88,024, but I susupect probably has a lot more to do with specialisation and deployment pay. I also accidently used the private, non-proficient values for the Aus military (A Private E-1, I think). The difference is only $1k for Private non-proficient and proficient, though. (So a Private E-1 compared to Private E-2 I think.) That Australian government transparency website has given me more questions than answers.

Can you clear this up for us Rand? Also, Australian bottled Stella Artois tastes like 4X, you need to make sure you get the imported stuff.

I assume he's going to get drunk of whatever he usually drinks and then go through all that other stuff in a night. Imagine the hangover (for a non-alcoholic)

Just briefly on that point as well, I've partaken in a few years of heavy drinking myself but I've always felt like shit the next day. How do people like the gunt and more specifically Rand (who we know has some form of full time work) handle this? Do you become so alcoholic that you don't get hangovers? Or do they just suffer through it until they get home and drink again?

You wake up with a hangover and you immediately start drinking again which chases away the hangover. This is usually accomplished with one or two shots, but regular people might have one of those minosas or socially acceptable brunch hangover drinks.

At this point your brain has already connected booze to medicine which means when you wake up physically shaking and sweating in the middle of the night - unless you're using xanax or other pills to deal with it - you're just what we call "maintenance drinking." As you can imagine this leads to daydrinking just to stay ahead of it and now you can see why people bring flasks to work.
