I thought the exact same thing when I read that. It's not the worst idea in theory but he's going to fuck it up as usual. There are many possible ways to define what a "positive community member" is, but it sounds like their version of it is just going to be a literal yes-man that gives every single game a positive review, which isn't helpful at all. If a game is bad, you should be able to say it's bad without worrying about it affecting your account. In my opinion it sounds like he's planning to reward people for toxic positivity.
The moment you start adding monetary/resource incentives for stuff like reviews, it introduces problems. Valve already figured this out, which is why they disconnected Steam points from the clown awards. They want reviews to be about whether the game is good or not, not just trying to guess what the general consensus will be in order to post the opposite opinion and farm awards. I'm amazed Garry doesn't see the parallels between this system and that one.
It's because Garry cannot take criticism. That's why. If you want to stick around in the community and not get banned you either can't say anything or you have to agree with every single decision they make. To be fair, it's not like this is super uncommon in modern gaming, but it's particularly bad with S&box.Everything I hear about this game is just extremely fake, from the community with financial interests in it playing unpaid, armchair lawyers to devs themselves encouraging fake engagement with carrots on sticks.
I don't think he understands that most people who don't like the sausage models or don't like the game's clear lack of identity aren't complaining about those things because they hate Garry and they're evil and just want to troll him. While there are some people with bad intentions, it is not the majority of critics. Even the regular posters on this thread haven't expressed anything like that, we're just laughing at the dumb shit he constantly does.
