I think it was some kids joyriding rather than anyone stealing the car for usual reasons and afaik some youtubers tested that method and found it working.

This video?

This video is faked edited footage, the phrase "steal a car with a USB charger" doe not apply here at all. First of all how the fuck did they open the door? They never even discuss this. To get autistic about it he uses a screwdriver to remove the clamshell, the wheel is rotated to access the 2 phillips/hex screws a the 3 and 9o'clock position between cuts they insert the real key to rotate the wheel out of the way to access to both these two screws. And YES you can just rip the clam-shell from the mounting screws but try doing that with your bare hands. They then use a small diameter "poke tool" to release the ignition anything about 1/8" diameter will work, something like a chopstick or Q-tip but the ignition switch can only be removed in the RUN position. So right out of the gate they are using a small flathead/phillips screwdriver and the proper key to pop the clamshell top off. Destructively they need a medium flathead, there's nothing to grab onto to yank it down and break the screws. The poke tool he's using from under will not depress the retainer ignition release button unless the ignition is rotated into the RUN position that's why it's blurred to hide the key sitting in the ignition in the RUN position for removal around the 6:18 makr the camera angle changes to them after they removed then reinstalled the ignition halfway so it's just sitting loose ready to be pulled out, now it looks like they removed the ignition without breaking the ignition or the retainer pin or just using a key. Take notice the keyhole is back in the OFF angle. They try to hide it with his finger over the keyhole but it's rotated about 90 degrees from the dissasembly angle. All bullshit and camera edititng.

You can just buy the same exact ignition at an auto parts store and test this theory, you don't even need the car, the little pin holding the ignition in will only depress and release the ignition when the ignition is rotated by key to RUN or some form of destructive force was used to break it to RUN a USB charger is not strong enough to do this at all.

Well, that is not the video I recall skimming through( still doesn't mean they didn't use similar tricks), but you are truly gentleman and scholar for writing all this out for us slow people in the back.
Keeping more on the thread topic, does anyone remember when car's glove boxes came with locks on them? Always found them bit odd, since those seemed something an enterprising thief could pry open to get to your sunglasses/pirate Michael Jackson cassettes/maps. Were they put there to keep the nosy aunt or small kid from not rummaging through the stuff while sitting in the front seat?

YW , I assure you I am retard IRL I have a successful business but I barely made it through high school.

The glove box locks were typically to keep the valet out of your stuff. Some vehicles have a valet key option that would not function on the GB or trunk, some keyless vehicles you can remove the key that operates the GB/trunk entirely from the FOB some cars even have valet keys programmed to limit car performance even limit the stereo volume. The glove box was never bullet proof in any car. I've seen some custom stuff in the trunk I thought was cool. Electronic quick access pistol safes, there was a older Benz I did not work on myself but saw video of had a decent grade 100LB safe mounted in the trunk. IIRC it was owned by a man running a jewelry store.

well have about 16 inches between them take a utility knife cut a square out.
You can slide most long arms and other things down into the bottom of the stud Bay you can also use a piece of high test rope and pin it to the top of the hole.
You can actually use a cheap landlord trick get a piece of paper and the paint of the wall and paint over it.

For concealing chemicals vacuum sealant I definitely didn't know a guy who used to send cocaine through the mail that way
