The thing I never understood about Charls is the way he talks. Like, why does he constantly obfuscate everything he says? So much of the time he talks like a rambling madman, and I often just assume that he's taking drugs or something.

Charls is very obviously mentally unstable and always has been the schizoid of the group.

there's a PGL episode where someone brings up modafinil (a stimulant) and Sam says "chuck used to take modafinil". the name is censored but i'm pretty sure by reading his lips that he says "chuck". when I get home I can see if I can find the clip.
 
I read that bicflame doesn't work for sam anymore because of what he did to the pipes in season 2 fishtank. has anyone else heard similar?

lots of big, scattered and vague ideas that he spends reading and listening and picking up through internet osmosis and spinning around in his head as abstracts, but not enough time actually verbalising them, so when it comes to actually saying it, it can be a struggle for everybody involved... not that time would make a difference anymore lol, his learning and way of expressing himself is just settled that way
it's also a way of saying things in a bombastic manner that's intended to dissuade you from arguing, or maybe the particulars don't even matter, language morphing into allegories and metaphors of one's freak interests - Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra style
beliefs are adopted in sets and not every belief in a set is thoroughly reasoned in one's head, so when it comes to conspiracy brain there are things one is inclined to mention and elaborate on and things one's inclined to bring up as an idea flourish but would rather want the receiver to overlook, couching it in vague language is a way to go about it

he's always brought that insane quality to sketches, leaps of assumed knowledge, bringing improv back to Doom and John Romero lmao

fortunately, neither Sam nor Nick are uninitiated to conspiracy thinking and his particular ideas, so they pick up on the things he's saying, moderate it, make it funny and let him down gently as friends ought to do and validate only the parts that make sense to them, so in the context of the three of them he spends more time being his charming MDE Chucky self and less time as Charls the angel number meaning generator

I hate to be the guy, but i do hope Charls has a good support system around him, he seems to be mentally unwell at times. I'd hate for him to go off the deep end with no one to sort of reel him in.
That said, I like him a great deal, that sort of odd vibe he has makes him pretty unique. It does feel like nick and sam sort of balance him somewhat.

I've been wondering about that lately. His wife, Effina, seems to be back home in Kuwait with the boys. Could be a pre-planned trip just to visit family and whatnot for a month or two, but given Charls' volatile behavior in the past it does make you wonder if there's more to it than that.

EDIT: On a related note, does anyone know of a VOD archive for Charls' old Twitch streams? Some folks in his Discord chat pointed to this IA link, but the playback looks broken.

I'm unsure if it's up to date, but Charls had a complete archive on his website https://charls.world/ , sadly it requires a paid subscription; and only allows CC or Paypal for payment, so proceed at your own risk.

No someone claimed it was a secret channel set up by Sam and it sure sounds/talks like him with a bunch of video filters on top. And not being funny seems to be hallmark of post-WP Sam

I hope that's true but I haven't seen anything about it. Sam also mentioned that Bic came up with one of the name suggestions for WP2 replacement on a recent PGL so they're definitely still communicating at least.

Effina was in chat talking back and forth with Charls on his stream today. Weird conclusion to jump to out of nowhere.

I still think "The Man Who Would Never Be... What They Made Him To Be" is the best piece of sketch "comedy", of my generation. Nothing comes close.


Charls has the pulse on what's inherently contradictory in society and how it leads to poor outcomes. When you get him writing and directing in that context, he really shines.
