Sam Hyde

The only laugh I got out of Ghostsuckers was the one where it begins with Weck and the crew going to lift weights at a gym, and out of nowhere the gym is haunted and they start the ghost hunting schtick. I didn't see it coming, so the initial gag got me. However, they lingered on the ghosthunting bit too long and I lost interest. They also did the same gag again in a different video with Sam and the crew doing boxing training or something, so I think they realized that was the only funny thing they could do with Ghostsuckers.

I think that one was called Deadlifters, which is a clever fucking title and probably the best part of the video. I remember watching it and getting to where I figured they'd be wrapping because the comedy seemed to be running out of steam only to check playback time and realize I was only about halfway to a third of the way through. I get that dragging out a punchline is part of the MDE shtick but it's best done in moderation lest it become borderline self-parody. Hell, the Nostalgia Critic of all people was able to figure this out better than Sam Hyde was. He never got rid of the annoying skits in his reviews but he at least learned to keep them short so they didn't completely derail the topic.

TGW suffers from a similar problem. Some of the jokes would work well enough if they weren't so blatantly padded and the series overall could be cut to half the number of episodes and be significantly better for it. This is the classic problem with internet content, instead of making the at times difficult decision of what to cut and what to keep they just throw everything in there and dilute what works with everything that doesn't.

i think that because interneet content is made by a smaller group of people who all work closely together and really like eachother that they have more of a sunk cost fallacy. its harder to cut stuff when you are responsible for all of it. in mainstream media, as lame as its become, its easier, almost to a fault, to edit out content becuase you aren't responsible for making all of it so you have an unbiased perspective of how it looks and feels to an end user.

thats why i said earlier that they were probably caught up in how fun it was to make the great war and that clouded their vision of how much fun it would be for us to watch it.

i agree, super common problem in media. same thing happened to arrested development when it got picked up by netflix. they no longer had the super constrained airtime to fit into and the show suffered for it. even sam has said constraint breeds creativity.

It appears it started out not so crazy, got very crazy, and the craziness is tampering off now.

I don't know where to post it in the Gunt board, so i decided to just dump it here, we have a small Cow crossover, as some Aussie decided to tip 25 bucks on Nick and Jet's tuesday realtor stream, to inform him about his "horse" problems:

Starts at 1:51:37
I had some problems with clipping and archiving this particular bit, so if anyone can (and wants to) - please do.

What i like about this is how clueless Nick is about this message and how he just incorporates it into a bit, with Jet playing the second fiddle - that and chat GUNTing it out :)
Even without knowing anything about GUNT nick still made pretty funny joke lol
