Sam Hyde is not Ted Bundy. I'd be prepared to buy that he's some kind of low-impulse-control creep - the 'roid abuse by itself probably makes him want to fuck anything that moves - but when you start comparing him to an actual rape-murderer who tortured cats, you've jumped the shark and made normal people not want to take you seriously.
100% this.
Sam very much reminds me of two different categories of people I've seen play out a couple times.
Guys who are super straight-edge who seem to not count sex as a vice (provided you aren't doing anything
super deviant). I think it's because sex is a necessary part of the life cycle, they view their obsessiveness/addiction as just being masculine or alpha or something. Almost every (not old) person I've ever met who was as sanctimonious and arrogant about drugs as Sam is, turned out to be a massive coomer with weird fetishes behind the scenes. Or, at the very least, willing to be totally dishonest/manipulative in order to get laid. That being said, more just secretly being kind of a greasy degenerate,
not an outright pedophile.
The other type is the kind of guy who views women as hyper-emotional retards who should never be taken seriously, and thus
underestimates them. While Sam does lean into this as a bit, I don't think anyone would argue there isn't some genuine belief under it. I could absolutely see a younger, more naive Sam hooking up with some BPD lunatic and just being like "Whatever, she's crazy, I'll just fuck her, then leave when she gets annoying" not realizing the absolutely obsessed corkboard-and-strings schizo life-ruination he just brought upon himself.
Much of what we're seeing play out here is the end result of those two qualities, imo.
I ultimately think Sam tries to keep a lid on all this shit more because he simply doesn't want crazy ex drama blowing up in his face all over again, in a much more public way. As others have said, if anything criminal had happened, I don't think there's a chance in hell people like Ethan Klein, Ian, and Hasan wouldn't be all over it. Either way, I'm glad Null is going to try and get to the bottom of this.
