The “Saved by the Bell” revival has found its lead.
Josie Totah, who previously starred in Mindy Kaling’s short-lived “Champions” series at NBC, has been cast to lead the series in the works at Peacock.

The forthcoming NBCU streamer, set to launch in April, announced the revival back in Sept. 2019, along with the news that original series cast members Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley would be reprising their roles in addition to serving as producers.

Here’s the logline for the revival: When California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.

Totah will play the role of Lexi, who is described as a beautiful, sharp-tongued cheerleader and the most popular girl at Bayside High, who is both admired and feared by her fellow students.

“Great News” creator Tracy Wigfield is serving as a writer-executive producer on the show, with Peter Egel and Franco Bario also on board as EPs. The series hails from Universal Television.

Totah, who also previously starred in “Glee” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” came out as transgender in a Time essay published in 2018. She most recently recurred in the Netflix series “No Good Nick.” Totah is repped by WME and Rise Management.

Also in the works at Peacock is a “Battlestar Galactica” revival with “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail executive producing, and a “Punky Brewster” sequel series.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

How stunning and brave, etc. etc. etc.

Always happy to see another sign of classic television dying.
Saved By the bell was never good, I remember watching it and all I did was just wish the sets in the show were real places, and I hated the characters.

But the only thing that's worse than Saved By the Bell is Soul Train, and you know what? FUCK SOUL TRAIN!

So 90's nostalgia pandering has finally begun, I could not think of a show more dated to it's time then "Saved By the Bell". even Happy Days has more longevity
Begun? the 90's nostalgia has been going on for 20 years at this point.

Ha ha. I remember this fag when I used to watch Jessie on Disney Channel when I was younger (with my younger sister obviously, imagine watching that shit on your own, lol). He was a nerd who crushed over the youngest main girl lead who had occasional appearances. I always knew he was fruity, he acted like it, but I didn't think he would be a fucking troon. Like shit....

Also, have fun trooning out Saved By The Bell. That's such a great idea. It isn't as if this insignificant percentage of the population is shilled EVERY SINGLE FUCKING WEEK BY THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA SINCE 2015.

Couldn't they have found a dude who could play a beautiful cheerleader convincingly? Surely there are some better looking young troon actors out there. The guy looks like the only female role he could pull off is either the nerdy class president wanna be or the anti-patriarchy stereotypical lesbian. He is not attractive. Not even remotely. If he were an actual girl, he wouldn't be hired for this part because he's too ugly. But now, not only do we have to pretend he is a girl, we've got to pretend that he is a beautiful girl, too? Fuck that.
