"Scary" concepts that really aren't, or shouldn't be

Dinosaurs.

I'm pretty sure I could kill a T-Rex or Carno with my 7mm.

I grew up around tons of alligators and never had a problem, and they're more dangerous than 90% of dinos.

Now those big fuck off Pteranodon things could pose some danger, since they'd be hard to shoot, and they do have some ripping power in their giant ass heads. But honestly I see them as more of a challenge than something to be afraid of.

What I'm saying is I want to fight dinosaurs.

I got two. The weird old person trope. Physically frail and slow people that can be shattered by wind don't really scare me. I think of the movie The Visit, and how comical it can be.

The stereotypical hooded guy that you see in every "real life horror stories" from reddit and 4chan post. I understand their danger, but in terms of telling a horror story that is usually fake, it is over done to hell that it became silly to me. The amount of times you hear "I was just a 14 year old boy. And then dere was a guy in a black hoodie holding what looked like a knife *add scary sound effect* I was scared" It's just over saturated and funny at this point. Don't trust black hoodie I guess.

The only actual threatening puppet in Puppet Master is the one with the flamethrower. Even the gun one, so small it would be lucky if it hurt like a BB gun. Or the big muscle one, laws of physics say his punch hits like a toddler.

Dentists
Literally dude who pokes, cuts, drills and pierces your mouth parts while you're sitting there unable to see wtf is happening. Also the operations tend to hurt.

I hate dentists on a personal level, I think they belong on the no-fly list. You gotta be real fucked in the head to want to be a dentist. I’d rather blow my brains out than get another root canal

I'll add onto this, but anything where the spook could be killed with a gun is just not that scary. Any horror thereof stems, not from true insurmountable danger, but incompetence or bad planning.

Though this might also be obvious and a given, literally anythere where "it was a metaphor for the characters trauma all along" where the spook was never actually real is immensly gay and not scary at all.

Exactly. I never thought clowns were scary at all. I always figured the makeup set off a subconscious alarm in some people, like with trypophobia (as mentioned above).

The video game that comes to life/starts talking to you. I can see it being startling at first but if it confirmed to be legit I would actually be kind of interested in chatting more, not freaked out.

I can't think of any examples right now, but I know what you mean. It usually starts out friendly, and then they piss it off or scare it somehow, and I end up rooting for the sentient robot.

Off topic, but I HAAAAAATE when they give robots human emotions. We developed fear and anger as part of our evolutionary survival process. A robot would struggle to understand them, and IF we gave robots human emotions, why would we be cruel to them? Looking at you, Detroit: Become Human and every other hack fake sci-fi featuring androids.

Maybe it's because clowns are fully grown people putting on an act of immaturity, since they're entertaining primarily children? That could even help explain the "horror" of mascot costumes and animatronics that sort of go in line with this, but at least with those I think the uncanny valley pulls a lot more weight in making actually discomforting.

I never understood the fear of clowns, until I realized that I feel something similar with my fear of drag queens.

I'm surprised that I am so alone in this. It's definitely the uncanny valley effect hitting me. They look like the Alternates from that one analogue horror show.

People who are scared of or abnormally grossed out by normal amounts of blood, it's childish and more on the level of seeing someone vomit. I think fear of needles or blood gets encouraged by media and makes it more common and severe than can be chalked up to "blood = injury = bad."

Abandoned buildings are also usually not that scary, at best you'll find a homeless person.

Allegedly there's a time slip occurring here that can take people momentarily back to the past.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was some sort of sewer gas or other leak thay hit someone just right that they temporarily lose consciousness.

We can't really travel back in time because, as someone pointed out, everything is constantly moving (eg - the earth around the sun, the sun around the galaxy).

Then, there's entropy, which is best described as the reason you can't make a cracked egg whole again or unbake bread. This also goes for raising the dead.

Now you have triggered my autism.
You would be able to easily down even the largest pterosaurs with birdshot or a regular shotgun. Their bones were hollow and paper thin, and many pteros would be a huge ass target. It would be very hard to hit something like Dimorphodon or Anurognathus, but Pteranodon or maybe even Quetzalcoatlus would get fucked.

Killing T-rex quickly would probably require an elephant gun, Carnotaurus was smaller so maybe a 7mm would work (though I'd say it would take more than one shot if not aimed at the head, also Carno was probably fast as fuck so consider that).

THREAD TAX: I don't find the concept of being forgotten long after my death all that frightening. I won't be around to experience it first hand.

As someone who is genuinely hemophobic, I can answer this one: it’s not that I’m afraid of it or even grossed out by it. It’s an involuntary reaction. For whatever reason, if I see blood, my ears start ringing, my head starts spinning, and I feel like I’m going to hurl. It’s actually really annoying because I want to work in healthcare…

I won't fault someone for having a phobia since that escalates to a physical response you cannot control. Maybe you could get into radiology.

Why would that be the thing that precludes time travel? If you're already doing something physically probably-impossible (traveling to the past), having to add something that clearly is possible (traveling in space) shouldn't be the dealbreaker.

I think the original concept of The Backrooms and that whole liminal vibes/space/drramcore thing is fascinating. Like others have said, like the creepypastas, it's been almost overdone. But the original and well done creations just tickles my brain in a way that I can't explain.
