This Gandalf picture was on the cover of my first copy of LOTR, and I feel tremendously nostalgic looking at it...

Not use if this counts as fantasy. It is Satan addressing his followers after constructing the city of Pandemonium in Hell, from Paradise Lost.

I like this. But who's the artist? Doesn't seem like Doré. I think I can make out "A. Martin" or something down on the bottom edge.

Speaking of Hell, Wayne Barlowe (who does a lot of Sci-Fi artwork) did a whole series of drawings about it, some are outright ghastly.

I especially love the shapeless mass of decaying corpses smeared around the throne.

I've never knowingly come across his art before but the pen and ink illustrations by Les Edwards in the H.P. Lovecraft collections I have are really nice. The simple style is a nice fit for Lovecraft.

In before anime shit, but it's inevitable; still, trying to keep in the theme of the thread:

These are the pictures which persuaded me to buy my Lovecraft omnibuses, but I didn't realize they were by Les Edwards; He's a very prolific sci-fi, fantasy and horror artist, and did some of the most iconic Warhammer art, including this 80s Realm of Chaos cover (Here's an interesting bit on that).

I like Paul Kidby’s style for the Discworld books.

They’re caricatures, but more based in reality than Josh Kirby’s which were frequently on the borderline of grotesque rather than the whimsy of Kidby.

I'd like to show you all some work by Tomás Sánchez, while it's not sci-fi in context his work really just has that other worldly feel to it, it's so detailed and dense it's almost heavnly in a way it's good stuff
