Hermeticism came about from this Egyptian wizard dude who apparently is the source of all alchemy.

I think that Hermetic tradition *says* Hermes Trismagistus was the creator of alchemy, but you are totally correct that it is older than that. It's always hard to know the truth when the source material is so ancient or lost.
