Scientists have unearthed two 430 million-year-old fossils which they say challenge previously held views on the origins of molluscs.
The specimens, nicknamed Punk and Emo, were found in Herefordshire and date back to a time when most of southern Britain was covered by sea, according to the University of Leicester.
Academics said the find had challenged the belief that early molluscs, from a group known as Aculifera, were basic and primitive creatures.
The discovery has been illustrated using 3D modelling to show how the creatures appeared.

Scientist chose the nickname Punk because of the creature's spiky, pink appearance
University of Leicester palaeontologist Dr David Siveter was part of an international team that found the fossils.
Analysis has shown Punk and Emo had smooth undersides, indicating they likely lived on the seabed.
The findings have been published in the journal Nature.
Dr Siveter said: "These 430 million-year-old fossils demonstrate the crucial importance of so-called 'exceptional preservation', in which soft parts of the animal are fossilised, to the interpretation of the evolution of life, in this case shedding new light on the early history of one of the fundamental branches of the evolutionary tree of a major group of life on Earth, the molluscs."
The present-day mollusc family includes snails, cephalopods and mussels.

'Exceptionally well preserved'

Dr Mark Sutton, from Imperial College London, led the research.
He said: "The names Punk and Emo were actually our initial pet names for these ancient molluscs, inspired by some of their unique features and individuality.
"Punk in particular, with its spiky appearance, clearly resembles a rebellious punk rocker and we thought Emo complemented it well."
He added: "Early Aculiferan molluscs are much less well-known than some of their relatives.
"We have limited information about this group, and for a very long time, we assumed they were rather basic, simple and primitive.
"Retrieving fossils that are so exceptionally well preserved and reveal details of the soft tissues is extremely rare.
"We have been able to create virtual fossils – 3D digital models – providing us with a gold mine of information and helping us understand that the branch of molluscan evolution containing Emo and Punk was much more evolutionarily rich and diverse than we thought."

WE'LL CARRY ON, AND WE'LL CARRY ON! - literally.

Satan put dinosaur bones in the ground to test us!
No, there's no test. Dinosaurs got killed in the flood. Satan merely lies to retards about when this occured

Since people are made into literal retards with public schooling, mind control drugs and poor diet, the lie sticks for most people. People believe the lie because they don't know how fossilization works

Since Satan's followers made dinosaurs, we can make an argument that Satan put the bones there. No dinosaurs, no bones. But that's a convoluted way of thinking about it

Didn't read.

It said that the soft tissue was fossilized, not that there WAS soft tissue you retard. That's significant because usually the soft tissues rot away too quickly to become fossilized, hence why 99% of fossils are specifically fossilized bone.
Nah. They find soft tissue in fossils all the time. That's how we know they're not a gorillion years old

Dinosaurs got killed in the flood.
I was never clear on what happened to the prehistoric sea creatures, or why He went with a disaster with a disparate impact on land creatures in the first place. Didn't want no smoke with Cthulhu maybe?

I was never clear on what happened to the prehistoric sea creatures,
they survived. No reason to wipe them out, humans live on land, the purpose of the flood was to preserve humanity and human genes. The sea creatures and abominations, like sharks, were not a concern

God's biggest thing is protecting humans on a genetic level. I suppose its his greatest creation, he gets supremely pissed when faggots mess around with it
or why He went with a disaster with a disparate impact on land creatures in the first place.
Disparate? It wiped out everything

The purpose of it was to cleanse the earth for God's creations. Up to that point there were all kinds of hybrids and abominations etc. Humans were fucking animals, demons were fucking people, witches, shamans, etc were creating hybrids and other abominations.

The bible says by the time we get to the flood, the genes of everything had been tainted. Noah and his family were the only humans left

Scrubby and toilet brush might have been better
Who thought they were simple and primitive?
Probably a holdover from ye olde days of paleontology, where life was thought to have started simply and grown more complex through speciation over time. Given the existence of "the Cambrian explosion" as it's known, with molluscs and trilobites and cartilaginous fishes and sponges and corals and all the other shelly (or otherwise calcium carbonate secreting) critters just suddenly appearing in the fossil record from the start of the Paleozoic, it's silly to still think that life hadn't started getting complicated, weird, and funky looking long before.

That said, it's an argument of absence of evidence vs. evidence of absence. Without freakish finds like these guys, or the Ediacaran Fauna, or the Burgess Shale that gave us Anomalocaris, there's really no way to argue that life started earlier, and diversified faster, than the old models seemed to suggest. I mean, you can argue it all you want, but nobody's going to trust that particular bit of soyence when so much of the pre-Cambrian sedimentary record is devoid of anything resembling life or its trace fossils.

That said, these things are fucking hideous and I'm not sorry they're gone. They look like a cross between a particularly large turd and a porcupine. Eww.

EDIT: Oh dear God they have modern descendants, fucking gross...

You're already a pink triangle, if you want to express your high IQ totally valid facts to own the SATANISTS then go make a thread for your youself in the autistic thunderdome, otherwise leave the rest of us to our certain doom and stop shitting up the thread.
