Simple, Dilbert is always the paycheck. Make the comic, get the money, use the money to fund projects you actually care about (though he did care about Dilbert at one point). The best way of not killing the golden goose is by keeping up the same schtick, business as usual.

The problem with Adams is that he is such an exceptional individual, broadcasting his weird ideas that the point that people are almost obligated to take notice. He thinks this makes him the super smart and crafty Dogbert, always keeping one step ahead, but in reality his exploits have screwed the pooch, time and time again, and he refuses to reconcile with it, at least with himself. Like, you can lie to other people all you want, but you're really fucked if you lie to yourself, and you actually believe it.

Dilbert creator Scott Adams is the latest to be canceled​

We know that the left is always looking for an opportunity to silence those who challenge their groupthink. Their target isn’t only conservatives but anybody who disagrees with their worldview even in the slightest possible way.
They left lives in the hope that contrarians to their groupthink will either misspeak or express a nuanced and detailed idea that can be extracted, stripped of context, and made to appear bigoted. This gives them reason to mount a social media campaign and initiate cancellation.
Yesterday it was satirist and thinker Scott Adams's turn to be cancelled.
USAToday announced that it would stop publishing Adams's "Dilbert" cartoon because they ‘lead with inclusion and strive to maintain a respectful and equitable environment for the diverse communities we serve nationwide.’
Cleveland’s Plain Dealer newspaper also decided not to publish any of Adam’s cartoons.
John Hiner of MLive Media in Michigan wrote in an editorial, “We will work quickly to find a replacement that will entertain you and not violate basic standards of decency and respect for others.”
Many other outlets followed and did away with Adams.
Adams has been producing Dilbert for three decades and they are seen as a devastatingly satirical commentary on workplace policies.
What did Scott Adams do such that he merited cancellation?
Adams become a nationwide trending topic after he said that black people are "a hate group and I don't want to have anything to do with them."

As a newfag I have to say this is why I like kiwifarms. Whether I like or dislike Jews niggers or faggots, it’s nice to be where myself and others can speak freely without the retarded woke faggots screeching about it. Always err on the side of free speech. Having cancel culture makes people afraid of making mistakes and that environment does nothing to further society as a whole. Case in point: the murder rate in Chicago.

If you read his guide on how to do comedy he considers there be to a few set elements necessary for crafting a joke, so after a while with the comic it'd become a matter of trying to include as many elements at the same time as possible. There's only so much you can do with a comic strip so after a while it is going to become systematic and a bit dull.

When it comes to how controversial he is, I feel like it mostly comes from having done a livestream for so long while blocking anyone he disagrees with. He's crafted an echo chamber for himself that's helped to make him a bit demented.

With the latest controversy, he's imagining the general public would be willing to look at all the violence of blacks objectively, which isn't going to happen as that's a blind spot everyone just sorta accepts. The left even came up with weird definitions of racism to claim anyone wanting people to be on time for work or to pay attention in school is being racist against blacks, so it's not like they don't notice, you're just not supposed to say it out loud.
