Huh. Procyon has gotten dumber. How many times has he aggregated a user’s problematic behavior — regardless of topical continuity — to tip the scales in favor of disciplinary action? The original post makes it clear that after the initial incident, there were terms set for Nico’s continued existence on staff, and those haven’t been met. This is too stupid to be stupid. Procyon is either spinning personal interest or his current illness a neurological one. And this by definition isn’t “manifestly” anything, that’s why there’s a discussion going on. I think it’s a relatively considerate thing to do. Most people can handle buckets of blood in a fictional horror-fantasy setting that’s obviously detached form reality. But the very real and concrete details of, say, child abuse? That can be deeply upsetting and derail the whole day of someone with PTSD around the issue. Not a great feeling if you’re just looking for some spooky containment horror escapism. At minimum, people who are sensitive to those issues can benefit from the advanced warning of knowing what they’re getting into. BUT, it may mean fewer people click on an article, so you see less love of content warnings among authors who live for getting those clicks and the subsequent upvotes.

I agree with you that the ‘gore’ tag seems unnecessary on a site where random, unspecified violence is kinda the site default. But I’m personally glad to know something is tagged both “gore” and “animal abuse” because what the fuck, I’m definitely steering clear of that.

While they took part in the culture, that doesn’t excuse what the culture did back to them. In the logs, we see a number of questionable things from people on staff that should have been uncomfortably obvious, and likely were, to anyone witnessing. For example, after Z announced that she was 16, Varaxous (who stepped down from staff sometime after the Bright thing, really doesn’t like this KF thread, got the ire of Z herself after her rebuke of the staff, and who made private all their Twitter posts after they showed up here) as well as others ask her to share her porn art that had been making the rounds in the DMs of the community, then encourage more of it from her. They talk about her writing an erotic fiction about SCPs. Jacob Conwell, a staff member of some repute, doesn’t seem to bat an eye when he’s told this point-blank. In fact, he seems to look the other way. There's no further discussion of this in staff chat. When reading the actual logs, recall that she was denied entry into the #site12 NSFW side chat because she was underage. But months earlier, the same content in a different chat, one run by staff and largely for staff, is

While Z did piggyback onto Randomini's plans to go to a local convention to meet up, Randomini also offers Z his Facebook so they can DM and meet up. This detail is conveniently excluded in the otherwise comprehensive (?) defense of Randomini (probably by Randomini himself) against Z's claims. It was not the case that Randomini merely "publicly announced his planned attendance of Oz Comic-Con via Reddit". He may have done that too, but that's certainly not the full story.

Less egregious but still questionable, ARD wrote a gay romance tale for Z because she asked him to as part of a yearly art exchange. (Similar exchanges included erotic/smut-like works, such as djkaktus' exchange to TroyL or Moose, one of the two I can't remember.) Some quotes from ARD's tale:

So staff knew Z was displaying sexually-seeking behavior towards site members, especially staff and authors with notoriety, but they don't really care about the very sexual discussion and content (e.g. erotic fanfics, NSFW art, etc) around her; only that she is bashing her younger brother about liking series 1 SCPs... priorities. They only made the age restriction policies and the reminder to not leverage your clout in SCP for sex years after this point.
