SCP Foundation - Creepypasta with roid rage - now ITT: SCP fans

Or, more realistically, people just lose interest and move on to other things. The site traffic falls to the point where the site is a ghost town. Ad revenue isn't enough to support the site, so whoever is still interested pays for the wikidot premium privileges. Eventually that goes away too and all that's left is what was snapshotted by Wayback Machine. Assuming people still read it.

Do we have any prior examples of a similarly popular internet phenomenon eventually vanishing as people lost interest and moved on to other things?

What do you think would contribute to people losing interest in SCP wiki and moving on to other things?
I doubt that that'll happen soon at this point. Interest is large and still growing.

Tumblr doesn’t count because it’s downfall is entirely a result of mismanagement and poor business decisions, not the community naturally gravitating towards something else.
Well grab a chair and get us some coffee, because I have a feeling this discussion about Something Awful is going to be a long one.

Or just has a stricter content policy that bars the grotesque content on certain kinds of SCPs.

Or whoever buys it is a corporation with a broader portfolio that eventually decides it isn't worth maintaining and shuts wikidot down. Happened to Yahoo! Groups after the Verizon purchase, which had millions of users at its height and even in its final days probably had enough traffic that ad revenue would have kept it afloat indefinitely.

Although even if those things happen, the community will probably just move to new hosting provider. IIRC, they maintain regular backups of the entire wiki.

I think we’re already seeing that process with egotists like Kaktus and his little cartel of influence-peddling sucking up all the glory and prestige for themselves alone. The vote obsession is toxic and it will continue to corrode this community until it is even more hollow than its current state as a bloated shell of its former self.

Anyone know what 014 used to be? I'm working on archiving the old stuff from an August 2008 capture and 014 is conspicuously missing.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's not on the list but it's still available, you just have to type in the URL yourself. "An Important Fork".

4646 contains one of the saddest, cringiest, absolute :story: of a "they know not what they do" I've ever seen

Agent Cartwright: Distance felt different to us. And besides, people used to say all kinds of shit back then.

Ms. Mackintosh: Remember how much they hated millenials?

Agent Cartwright:
Oh god.

Ms. Mackintosh: Hehehe. Those were the days.

Agent Cartwright: Yeah. They really were.
My fucking sides.

I thought it was fine? I don't get it.
What’s the joke here this isn’t a bad line at all
Guys, I'm sorry but no one is ever going to feel bad for hating millennials. There's no apologies for stuff like that, there's not some big "Previous Generation Admits It Was Wrong" Dewey defeats Truman headline moment. I'm still getting shit for being Gen X and I'm in my 40's. It's just this "they'll feel bad one day, really they will, they just need to see how cool we are" thing and it's extremely immature thinking.

Barring those issues, let's put it like this. You write a story about a house time locked at the 99-00 (which you know, I was around for too lol) NYE and it's pretty decent, you get the dialogue going and it's got a good amount of emotional punch, but it's missing something to give it that final push to completion...

"I know, a reference to Millennials!!"

Do you see what I'm trying to say?

You're reaching for something that isn't there

I've been powering through most of the 4000 series for a week straight now, I don't think I am. Between the sheer amount of wish fulfillment, tumblr/twitter issues, the author's personal emotional issues being aired for updoots, and just masturbatory fantasies about whatever, I'm realizing that they're treating the SCP world like they treat the real world. No sharp edges, everything is inoffensive and the things that aren't are universally abhorred by literally everyone, everyone loves them, Nazis get punched, etc.

They've taken an world full of eldritch cosmic horror and removed the unknown. That story is a perfect example because it directly links to exactly the type of thing I mean, Lily's Proposal.

"uh yeah, pretty flowers bloom when earth and everyone is going to die and everyone is ok with it"
How do we know this? No idea. Any sort of faux religion stuff to back it up? Nope. It just happens, pretty flowers and rainbow and butterflies when the horrors come to flay our minds and erase our dimension so it's not even scary you cinnamon roll you!

That's what I mean, they exists inside a self created world of horror that can't even be horrible, it has to care about feelings and children's cartoon morality. It's not overt until it is but once you see that it's really hard not to.

Bro it's a throwaway line, it ain't that deep.

Looking forward to Kaktus's entry, Trump vs. Biden.
Personally, I'm hoping for one where ACKSHUALLY Biden is containing the demon referenced in Trump vs Clinton and that's why he's devolving into a drooling retard or something.

Failing that, I'd just settle for something that wasn't stupid.

THE schizoid personality disorder
Fun fact: you can find out the theme early by checking the page's files to see the premade banner.

It's "nature".
Oh god. The last thing we need are endless "CRAPITALISM IS DESTROYING THE PLANET!!!!!!!!!!" SCPs. even though yeah, it's technically true, they're gonna butcher it so hard. Can't wait for Ferngully the SCP, though.
