As far as I know, this is normal practice. Admins who step back or become inactive aren't demoted unless they explicitly ask to be.

They don’t usually go with “Honorable Retirement” more than they do punish people that have done terrible things with super vauge listed reason for what they did. But also, if you read the new policies, that for sure Dr. Bright fell under, it’s pretty sus. He also must have read them considering he was so high up.

Staff are not to directly advertise their current position in the SCP Wiki’s staff structure on platforms where adult activity is expected or the norm. “I am [REDACTED], Moderator of SCP Wiki” is unnecessary; “[REDACTED], writer at SCP Wiki” is more acceptable, if among other hobby listings. It’s not necessary to fully isolate one’s self identity between the Wiki with other platforms, but a level of division is expected and heavily encouraged.

Exactly. I see that Dexanote was the one to make the 05 thread about a policy ~limiting~ sexual interaction between users and staff. I'd guess most of the people abused by staff don't trust the exact same staff to make policies allegedly intended to prevent the exact same abuse, Dexanote. And it's because you are malicious, predatory people who know how to talk and lie and cheat until the larger SCP community is complacent enough for you to conceal, maintain, and enjoy a blissfully unaware sphere of the inner circle that is just as abhorrent as it always was. In great confidence, I speculate that under these parameters, any user abused by a staff member would be silenced further and told that their case had been "investigated and did not fall under relationship policy parameters for inappropriate conduct" or some shit like that. They will investigate themselves and find themselves guilty of no wrongdoing. They always do.

It's somewhat common for staff to be moved to an 'inactive' or legacy position when they leave. I don't think people get demoted unless it's specifically for disciplinary reasons and even then we've only had one person banned through being censured since it was put into place as a policy (Cimmerian).

So it's not that he faked his resignation, per se, but that actually looking at his wiki and staff activity is a much better metric.

Now that I’ve slept on it, I don’t think I’m all that happy with the public statement. Assuming that everything here is truthful, calling the situation a “staff member and former staff member having sent NSFW messages to a minor” is greatly downplaying what the actual situation looked like. Also, there’s no mention of the fact that the issue with staff and the community extends far among these two. I’ve seen no word on whether anything is going to be done about Roget, DjKaktus, Uncle Nicolini, Randomini, or any of the other weirdos who’ve been discussed in this thread or been reported to AH only for the problem to fall on deaf ears.

From what I’ve seen the actual answer to this is that Bright was a big deal in the earlier days of the SCP Foundation and put in a ton of work as an admin and he’s been riding that high ever since. Prior to retirement, though, he hadn’t done anything really significant for several years and his decade-long presence on the site has been full of abuses of power. I don’t fully understand it either.
