SCP Foundation - Creepypasta with roid rage - now ITT: SCP fans

I have a historically bad track record with predictions, so take this with a grain of salt, but it looks to me like PF is going to stall until the small handful of middle-aged Polish men running Wikidot decide to pull the plug, at which point there will be a scramble to grab everything they can and jump to something else.
How difficult would it be to migrate to some non-wikidot platform? Could you just create an instance of the actual original wikidot itself, or would you have to engage in some laborious conversion process?

I know that it's not as easy as just cloning the website, but I'm not super familiar with the details. Last I checked, the big concern was that they couldn't figure out a way to port old discussions and forum posts, but for all I know that could be solved by now. They have a forum category for PF if you want to check yourself.

Edit: Plus, it's SCP staff. You know anything they do is going to be tied down with needlessly complicated bureaucracy.

The wikidot platform doesn't give administrators a whole lot of freedom with the backend, so if you need a feature and it's not available through Wikidot you're SOL (Ex: removing malicious downvotes). Ideally, you'd pay someone to construct a basic wiki website for you and then hand you the keys so you can perform maintenance yourself. I'm just making generalizations here, but that could probably cost up $10,000 if SCP hired a web designer. It would be a laborious process, but at least they would have control over their own site.

Unless Wikidot is open-source, there’s no way to just clone it and have everything moved over seamlessly. You’ll have to do a lot of work making the new infrastructure from scratch and then porting your shit over in a way that doesn’t break.

It appears to be some kind of AGPL.

License
All the Wikidot software is available under the GNU Affero General Public License 3.0.
AGPLv3 is a GPLv3-compatible license that falls under the "free/libre software" tag. If you are familiar with the General Public License, AGPL differs only by an extra "web service case" which requires that modified versions of Wikidot that is used to power a web service must be also downloadable and licensed under AGPS.
Here is a short explanation what you can, must and cannot do with the Wikidot code:

CAN

  • Download the software and use for any purpose.
  • Study how the program works and adapt it to your particular needs — you have full access to the source code.
  • Redistribute (modified or unmodified) copies of the software.

MUST

  • If you are distributing original software, modified software or any software that is based on it — it has to be also licensed under AGPL.
  • If you have modified the Wikidot software and use it to run a web service, you have to make the modified software downloadable and licensed under AGPL. (this is what makes AGPL different from GPL).

CAN NOT

  • Grab the software and redistribute it under a different license.
  • Use modified Wikidot software and not make it available for download.

So it looks like you actually could download the software and set up a website using it, and modify it, so long as you made the modified version also available for download under the same license. You'd need people at least as competent as the current batch running Wikidot though.

You mean VAElynx? What'd they do?
Bullying & being a jerkass, but at least they’re not a sex pest! That’s... something?

he did call it like he saw it actually for reals, I got my “Little Stalin” nickname from him calling out my blatant power brokering

I've been vaguely aware of VAE's existence since probably a few months after I joined the wiki, but I've never sought out information about them, so I did that. Here's what I found, for those with an interest in the wiki's history and users beyond just the predators/narcissists/general lunatics.

Wikidot profile: https://www.wikidot.com/user:info/vaelynx
SCP author page: http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/vaeisenberg-personnel-file
Disciplinary thread: http://05command.wikidot.com/forum/t-542732/vaelynx
Chat ban thread: http://05command.wikidot.com/forum/t-577580/vae

Make of these what you will.

Also, it's completely unrelated, but here's a short chat ban thread that I found while looking for VAE's thread that had me laughing out loud for at least five minutes, because I have the humor of a twelve-year-old.

Did he seriously make a fucking sequel to the Among Us SCP?
Unfortunately, yes. Here's a quote from his SCP.
Mary Ross: And that's how you can see the connection?
LC Psi-2: There is a pattern to all things, Miss Ross - and this pattern you've shown me is the same as Phthonus'. It is exceedingly sus.
(Pause.)
Mary Ross: Exceedingly… eh?
Technician Grayson: Oh, goddamnit. This is what happens you when you get billion-dollar pieces of hardware to play your little kiddie games, lady. The verbiage is all fucked up.

SCP-5761 - When The Impostor Is Sus II: Nightmare Hour
Tanhony wrote this thing and I am going insane from this.
Oh God, he wrote another one. I wonder how he made it awful this time-
Director Werner: Under — just under the, ah, the item number here, I'm seeing a — an object class? I'm sure this is a misprint, but could you just — could you just confirm what says for me?

(Pause.)

Mary Ross: It says Esoteric, sir, Keter-Dark.

Director Werner: And that's a misprint?

Mary Ross: It is not.

Director Werner: I see. And could you, ah, could you elucidate exactly what the Keter-Dark object class, uh, represents?

(Pause.)

Director Werner: It, uh — it worries me that you're having to think about it. We're meant to be — you're meant to be able to tell what these classes represent at a glance, that's what they're — that's what they're for. I couldn't tell you what Keter-Dark means. Why isn't it Keter? I've read the file. It should be Keter. All this — all these — it's fine just being Keter, why have we stuck 'Dark' on the end?

Mary Ross: I'm sorry, sir. The situation's still developing.

Director Werner: It's ridiculous.

Mary Ross: I'm sorry, sir.
This is the greatest SCP article ever written.

Looks like the author's trying to milk what upvotes they can from this.
I figure now's as good a time as any to stop shitposting and give my actual thoughts.

Honestly, I kinda like this one. It's certainly an improvement over the first one in every way to me. I find the characters and story more compelling, it's conceptually interesting, and the Among Us tie-in doesn't hurt this one as much. I respect Tanhony for going back in and producing a much better work than what he originally wrote, which was quite terrible.

Tanhony has at least some integrity, he personally betrayed me but not a bad guy overall
