Da Mayor said:
“In the last few days, Seattleites have expressed concerns and frustration over symbols of hate, racism and violence that exist in our city. Not only do these kinds of symbols represent historic injustices, their existence causes pain among those who themselves or whose family members have been impacted by these atrocities. We should remove all these symbols, no matter what political affiliation may have been assigned to them in the decades since they were erected. This includes both confederate memorials and statues idolizing the founder of the authoritarian soviet regime. Both are on private property, but I believe the confederate memorial at Lake View Cemetery and the Lenin statue in Fremont should be removed. We should never forget our history, but we also should not idolize figures who have committed violent atrocities and sought to divide us based on who we are or where we came from.”

I wonder how long before antifa and blm are attacking cops, rioting in front of his office demanding he retract his statement and say that they're not like confederates and are totally peaceful? Also lol "Seattleites"

HOLY SHIT THERE'S A LENIN STATUE?! I know it's Seattle, but there's got to at least be some people bothered by it like the minority of SJWs over the contrary.

To be fair, why is there even a Confederate memorial the complete opposite side of the country?

I can't remember the details of how the Lenin statue got there (if I remember right it was kind of funny), but they've been trying to sell that statue for like a decade and no one's bought it, so it's just hung out with all the other weird statues.

Allow me to clear up a few misconceptions:

The Lenin statue was bought from Slovakia or something in the 90's as a joke, it's not endorsed by the city but rather owned privately and displayed on private property. There are certainly a few moronic leftists in the city who respect the statue but it's also a local tradition to go out and cover his hands in red paint (this is a practice encouraged by the owners last I checked). I've done as much several times. Believe me, for most Seattleites it's not a revered icon of revolution or anything, it's kind of a running joke.

That said, the Seattle subreddit is predictably losing their shit over this. Murray's one of the least leftist mayors we've had in a while and the progressives in the city have been shitting their pants over him for his entire term so he's not exactly friendly to rabid identity politicians. The city in general is getting sick of them - the progressive candidate actually lost the mayoral primary a few weeks ago and she threw a fit over it - so pandering to moderate Democrats who still hate the confederacy but are also increasingly worried about the rhetoric of radical leftists is a good call. Not sure how he can remove a statue that's not owned or maintained by the city though, that's going to be interesting provided this measure moves forward at all.

Far from the days when the Space Needle was a big deal I bet, boy do they forget.

This doesn't surprise me. I remember back in the 90s' when even a familiar root beer brand was pulling this stunt...

Of course nobody thought twice about where this would lead us 20 years down the road. We laughed anyway.

Usually when it comes to stuff on private property that government/people want gone like a statue, house or something they will offer to buy the plot of land or object from the owners. I'd say buying the statue and removing it will probably be what is done if they're serious about removing it.

Hopefully the owner knows how to con the govt. for as much as he wants out of it.

I don't think you guys see the beauty of this. Seattle is making both white nationalists and far-left cucks chimp out at the same time. Godspeed, Seattle.
Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, it's not like Seattle is a haven of radical centrists or anything. Our city council has an actual socialist on it (one of the main architects of our $15 minimum wage, a plan that actually wound up hurtinglow-income workers but it's still taboo to admit that in public spaces). The mayor is on his way out amid a shitload of scandals and felt like pissing people off in city government while appealing to the silent majority within the city.

For people who don't know, a number of Confederate officers served in the Puget Sound.

For example, Pickett (of Pickett's charge) used to live in the northern part of the Puget Sound and built bridges and fortified the area after there was some invasions by Injuns. His house that he lived in is still standing.

Love to see a riot over that if they bother.

That actually sounds like fun. It's not like they are honoring Lenin and worshiping him. It's the total opposite. The fact that no one wants to buy the statue should be pretty telling of what everybody really thinks of it. But this is the no fun allowed age so it has to go.

I hate today! There was that time when we did that but apparently we had to grow up and a new set of brats took over without the same context we had.

Gorby actually did a Pizza Hut ad!

As for this, I can't wait for the REEEEEing from ANTIFA about the Lenin statue, seems the city can do nothing about it though as it's on private property. Hopefully they start trespassing and the owner is an advocate of the Second Amendment...
